Wow, did I pick the wrong time to catch golf fever in Nebraska after 4 years away or what??!!!

Just joined this site and am looking forward to discussions and seeing the different equipment choices you all use.  I don't seem to have the option to edit my Signature yet.  Read something about having to post a few times?  I'll figure it out.

Anyway, back with golf fever after stopping cold turkey at the end of 2006 for various reasons.  Been on craigslist and ebay buying and selling like crazy since November getting ready for the spring.  Have collected 4 putters off ebay in the last 2 months.  Changing putters is a "hobby". That's actually how I found this Sand Trap site...reading all the reviews and forum discussions about the clubs I was looking at.

Well, looking forward to the discussions, learning, laughs, etc...

Thanks,

Tom

Welcome Tom,

Turns out anytime a person gets back into the game is a good time (at least from my perspective).

I am interested - what kind of putters did you pick up?

Though some people are a little too impatient to wait to win an auction on Ebay or perhaps a little worried about whether or not they are getting the genuine article, I have found Ebay to be a pretty good option for golfers who want to get a good deal.

My thing is - I want to hit the club - get the specs - and then shop around.

Once again, glad you found The Sandtrap.

Thanks for the welcome.

Regarding the putters I currently have in hand, here they are:

  • YES! Sophia
  • YES! Madison
  • Odyssey White Steel Tri Ball SRT
  • Odyssey White Hot Tour #7H (Selling this one)
  • Odyssey DF550 - from years ago
  • MacGregor V-Foil MOI M6.4K - from years ago

On the way...freshly purchased via ebay:

  • Heavy Putter L3 Mid Black Mallet
  • Nike IC 20-20A

Trying them out to see which to keep and which to sell.  Not much else you can do in Nebraska winter!

As of this moment, my favorites are the White Steel Tri Ball (the visual on that is EXCELLENT and it's VERY easy to pendulum dead straight) and the YES! Sophia due to mainly the look and feel.  Beautiful stick.
Can't wait to get outta the living and dining room and putt outside!

Welcome. Why did you stop playing?at least you're back now. I've been through the putter collection phase, it gets expensive!

Stopped playing after the 2006 season due to $$ redirection (kids get more expensive as they get older-this just in) and due to my on course temperment.  Got down to a 4 HC and got to the point where I couldn't accept blowing up on a hole...expecting perfection basically.  Hard to explain.  It just got more frustrating than fun so it was time for a break.  Had no idea it would turn into a 4 year break.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
