I am currently playing with a stiff shaft in my irons and i am considering new irons this year. I am going from King cobra II oversize irons hopefully to a set of 2009 x-forged callaway blades. I am a 10 handicap and I have spent the past couple weeks reading reviews about these clubs. I found a set for a reduced price but they have project x flighted 6.5 extra stiff shafts and I was wondering if that would be to much at one time. I have a higher swing speed and I think these shafts will work for me but I would like to know what others think... thanks jeff

Shafts are the transmission of a golf club, and these shafts are pretty grizzly.  What shafts are in your King Cobra IIs, that is an old set of sticks.

I'm playing 6.5 flighted PXs in my current set, and I really wish I would have soft-stepped them or gone with a 6.0.  They are accurate and keep the ball fairly low, but its a ton of shaft to load properly.

Unless a fitter near you recommends a shaft close to this, I'd avoid purchasing this set.  The X Forged is a great head, but even the greatest head won't play well if the the shaft doesn't fit you.   These shafts don't fit too many players, which is why eBay is filled with them.

delav,

thanks for the response, I dont excatly know what shaft i have in my cobra's since i have owned them for about 12 years. I looked through them the other day and all I could find was a sticker that said " S ". I guess if I am going to spend the money for new sticks I will have to go down and get fitted for them. So do you think these 2009 x-forged callaway blades are worth the money?

thanks for your reply and your time... jeff

More than likely not with that shaft.  The x-forged are great and certainly worth what they can be picked up for, but unless that shaft fits you decently well they will be of little value to you.

What are your PW and 6 iron distances currently?  What is your trajectory and shot pattern?

pw - 145 / 150

6 iron - 180 / 185

trajectory is a little high but that seems to be with all of my clubs. I found a set of x-forged in the project x flighted 6.0 stiff shafts and i think that might bring down my trajectory a little. as far as shot pattern I am not sure what your looking for. PW I generally hit it from the middle of the fairway to the right a little, and my 6 iron i can hit it straight but if i miss it is also to the right side of the fairway. this might be a setup problem or lie angle being incorrect I dont know. I put some new grips on my clubs last year and I also think this might have messed me up a little as I use the thumb mark on the grip and they were not perfectly lined up as the original ones. I am going to the grand rapids golf show friday night and I am going to try and get fitted for a new set and see what they think about shaft ideas for me. have you hit the  project x flighted 6.0 stiff shafts yet? I read these keep the longer irons at a higher trajectory and the shorter irons at a lower trajectory. thanks jeff
