Hi guys and gals,

I am new to the site and I am very impressed with it's layout.

I have only played 4-5 rounds of golf in my life. Last year I swore to myself that I would improve my game, but it never happened. Part of my problem was I didn't take any lessons. I was scoring in the 120-130 range (Yuck)

This year, I have received a lesson and gone to the chipping/putting green to work on my game and my first round of golf was so satisfying. We played 9 holes and I scored a 53. Yes I know, a 53 is nothing to write home about, but there was a huge difference in my ability to simply the game. My buddy is a good golfer and scores well and he was completely stoked on how much I had improved.

He and I came up with a list of goals for me to reach this year which I thought was crucial to my success this season.

My question now is...What is next?

More lessons? More practice? More play time?

I have only received 3 lessons in the last year. but the most recent game I played, I played my best round by far.

Thanks guys and I look forward to hearing your comments!

From now on start marking down how many fairways you hit, and when you miss them, mark down where you missed it ( right, left etc )...mark how many greens you hit in regulation and again where you missed them. Mark down how many putts you make per green as well.

This will give you an idea of where to practice....if you play a round and hit 2 fairways but 8 greens, then working on your tee shots would be beneficial.

Chipping/pitching is also crucial for when you do miss the greens, you can save par/bogey.

If you can afford lessons, do it....especially if the lessons are working ( which they are )

Congrats on the score buddy, it's a great feeling when practice pays off!

Good job man! That's great improvement, i bet by the end of the season you will be shooting regularly in the low to mid 40's if you keep it up.

Like he said, mark down everything, it really will help alot! One trick that helped me was getting some masking tape, going to the driving range, putting some tape on the face of your club, it can help to figure out how well you are striking the ball.  IE The ball will leave a perfect imprint in the masking tape.

    • Day 2 - Played a few holes on the sim, but I feel like some of the numbers were off. Going to re-calibrate and mess around some more.
    • Day 254: did a stack session.
    • I think they were going for this type: Not the type you may be thinking of.
    • Thanks for both of your inputs. I fully agree that if a course has a non-smoking policy, everyone should just respect it. I'm also sure that my team-mate will do so, there is no doubt about that. I was just interested in the official requirements or steps for having this (or any other matter about personal conduct) applied.   Just FYI: We were told by a member about this policy, we haven't seen anything about this in writing so far. I only checked their homepage, but I will be at that club on Wednesday to play a round to get to know the course, then I can ask the reception or caddy master about it. Given that it doesn't affect me personally anyway (as I don't smoke) I will probably not bother to dig any deeper than that.
    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.
