I have this shaft in my driver and was wondering whether this has what you would classify as a "soft tip". i am looking into putting an aftermarket shaft into my 3 wood and was hoping to get a soft tip shaft to have an easier time hitting the ball off the deck. any suggestions or input is appreciated. thanks!

That shaft has a firm tip and low flight path..

A shaft from Aldila with a softer tip section would be the NVS

Matter of fact I use to have that NVS shaft on my 3 wood, I loved it to hit from the deck but changed to Rombax shaft only because I use my 3 wood allot more from the tee now..

thanks for the input. i've tried the nvs in a driver and found it very whippy. perhaps it is due to the tip softness. i will test to see how it fits. is tee performance severely compromised with a softer tipped shaft? on tighter fairways or when i'm not hitting driver well i like to use my 3 wood to get back on track.

No, however with a softer tip section on the shaft. You create a higher flight path with less roll.. But you dont want too much roll like your driver because when using it from the fairway to the green he would be harder to judge the correct distance with too much roll. In other words stopping power..

You need to prioritize your needs for your three wood. If you plan on using it more off the tee than off the deck, I would go with something similar to the CompNT, assuming you like it in the driver, to maximize distance. Assuming you want to use it primarily off the fairways, I would go with something with a softer tip, to help elevate the ball a bit better. Assuming you're wanting to increase performance off both, I'm not too surprised you don't like the NVS, because it is a ninety degree departure from the CompNT in terms of bend profile. There are a couple of shafts to read about and try to demo. One is the Accra SC series shafts which have a softer tip, but retain a much tighter feel even on all out full swings. The Graphite Designs Purple Ice Fairway is another shaft with a softer tip, but again, it still feels very controllable without being boardy. It's a fantastic fairway shaft that deserves more publicity than it receives.

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there. 
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂

Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
