Ive been thinking about messing around with my driver shaft. A buddy of mine has a Aldila NVS 65 on his Cleveland Launcher 460 and when I hit it the other day it felt like the farthest drive Ive ever hit. Ive got a Taylormade R5 Dual Type D 9.5* right now with the stock Talormade shaft and Im just looking for some opinions on shafts. My swing speed is around 110 and I usaully hit drives between 280 and 300 yards.

depends what you're looking for. shafts can change your ballflight, your launch angle, and your spin. make sure to choose a shaft that fits your profile, or better yet, get fitted for one. if getting fitted is not an option, do research on what the shaft is like to make sure it will give you the desired traits you're looking for. also, make sure you read multiple reviews. every swing is different and the shaft will thus be different experiences for everyone.

man, i'm starting to sound like gas_can!

first things first, you've taken the right step in realizing how important the shaft is for driving. I would agree that when I started recognizing this key element to the game, my handicap decreased dramatically. So, you have a decent head, one you like, and we go from there.

With your swing speed you can safely get a stiff, possibly an X-stiff if you prefer. My favorite (and most with a 105mph swing speed) is the Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue 65. Honestly, this shaft is pefectly balanced and ball flight is tremendous with my Orlimar HipTi 420 9.5* head. This is what I, and many people I both caddy for and play with, use.

Everyone's swing is different, but spend the money, hop on a launch monitor at your local shop, and play around with different combinations to find your desired launch angle, rpm, and spin rate.

You will likely see after this $100 investment, your control and distance will leave you speechless. Good luck

My swing speed is 105 -108 with a good amount of load and late release. I too like the Grafalloy, but I preferred the Prototype Comp NT.

I second the comp nt but my question is if you hit it 280 to 300 and fairly straight I would say your current setup is just fine.

Spend the $300 on a 73 or 83 Diamana Blue or White board and I can promise you won't be disappointed.

Man...280-300yds! A lot of us would kill to get that on a consistent basis, especially if it was in bounds. Do you feel you need to change the trajectory of your drives? I have a Stulz shaft in all my driver's and they give me the consistency and torque resistance I wanted. I chose to get a Stulz shaft that would get me a lower trajectory for windy days and more roll. The courses I play on a regular basis are harder and wind is a factor.

I have the ProForce V2 stiff in both my driver and 3 wood. It is one of the lowest torque shafts out there, so it is a stiffer stiff shaft. I too swing about 108-112mph with the driver.

I'm using the ProForce V2 stiff and love it. After being a Grafalloy Blue guy for a while I've been pleased with the V2. It is stable and provides a lot more feel than the Blue ever did.

As always best bet for choosing a shaft is getting fitted.
