I have been golfing for about one year. I started with a used Cleveland Hi-Bore Monster and had a nasty, nasty slice. I became so annoyed, I sold that, and bought a Ping G15 3 wood. I have been hitting the 3 wood off the tee with some moderate "success", and am thinking I would like to give another driver a try.

I have been hearing great things about the Callaway FT-iQ, and have seen them recently at MC Sports for $99.99. Being that I can not hit one at MC Sports as they don't have a range, I am nervous about buying one with out trying it, even though that's what I did with my 3 wood.

Anyhow, I am considering getting the 'draw' version. I have always been against this, but my skill, or lack of, is changing my mind. However, I am worried about buying a draw and then regretting it later.

What are your thoughts? Thanks!

No club will fix a big slice. You have to fix that. A draw club may make it a little easier to get results. Just a tip but try hitting a driver and three wood half distance and see what happens.

I bought a new FT-IQ draw version last week.  Granted I am only 1 range and 1 round into the driver but I am seeing some nice results from it.

This club is definately the most forgiving driver I have ever hit.  I was desperate too as this was my 3rd driver since January.

Can I ask a question though.  What is your driver swing speed?

And what shaft are you currently using on the Hi-bore?

Reason I ask is, whenever I attempt to use a club with a shaft that is too stiff or rigid for my swing speed the slices come out.  When I play the correct shaft I tend to hit the ball straight or even a slight draw.

My first driver this season was a TM r9 10.5* with reg flex stock Aldila shaft.  I was a bit perturbed as the sales rep said a swing speed over 80mph requires a regular flex shaft.  Even more frustrating, this was a TM sponsored pro that gave me this advice.  After struggling getting the ball in the air and slicing the ball I did some research on the shaft and Aldila recommends swing speeds over 90mph as regular.  I would require a senior or light flex shaft in their shafts.

Frustrated with the r9 I sold it and bought a Nickent 4dx evolver driver with a senior flex UST 12.5* V2 proforce High Launch shaft.

This got the ball up in the air with the high launch shaft coupled with the higher loft (12.5*).  When my swing was timed perfectly and I kept the tempo nice and easy the 4dx worked, however the dispersion was a little higher than I wanted.  Even total mis-hits occured where it went like 50-75 yards.  Granted I am no pro, but lately I have been shooting in the mid to high 80's and complete and utter duffs shouldnt be occuring with the driver as often as they were for me.

Saw rockbottomgolf, com got in some of the FT-IQ's.  A driver I used in the past had a square head and I didnt mind it at all, so I went for it.  I actually stepped back up to a regular flex and went for the Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki 60 shaft version as I read online that the reg flex plays more similar to a senior/light flex shaft.  Glad I did.  The shaft works great with the 13* head.  With my 82 mph swing the added loft and low kickpoint shaft helps to get the ball in the air.  As with other owners I am experiencing a touch less distance but the dispersion is much less from right to left.  I played on my local course and many of the holes are tight and I normally use 5w or 4i.  Not anymore with this club.  I have the confidence to bring it out on even the tightest par 4's now..

And as far as fixing the slice, I don't believe its the head that does it for me, it was just matching a shaft to my swing speed.  Actually I hit the FT-IQ straight or even with a slight fade that starts left and ends up in the middle.  I've never played a fade before.

I know this was long winded but I hope some of the commentary might help.  And for the price right now, the FT-IQ is tough to beat.  I say go for it, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Thanks. I ordered an FT-iQ from Callaway the other day, and already UPS has it listed at "out for delivery". I am staring out the window like a lonely puppy waiting for it.

I hit it on Friday at the range for the first time and was pleased with the results. I played with it today and I LOVE IT! I feel that I can guarantee myself 200 yards carry and some hits reach out to 250 on the roll. I played 9 holes today, and hit driver on 6 of them. I found myself in the fairway and was never more than 3-5 yards in the rough.
