Almost got my first eagle today....twice

Hit a great drive 280 down the middle of the fairway on a 480-500 yard par 5 today...had a little more than 200 yards left to the hole and I was using clubs I just recently purchased...I sold my old set so the only option I had was the 4 iron that came in the set I bought...Well my first stroke was great, the ball went far and straignt just in the wrong direction and landed in the weeds on the right side of the green lol.... since it was about 105 degrees I really didnt feel like searching for my ball and i was intrigued by how far I actually hit my new 4 iron so I just dropped a new ball from the orignal spot, took my time (which was extremely hard to do today with sweat pouring in my eyes) and ripped it again...this time it bounced in front of the green and landed about 10 feet from the cup, then I sank the putt and even though I wrote down a birdie I was furious that if I wouldnt have shanked my first shot so badly it wouldve been my first eagle....then the last hole came around which is a 288 yd par 4, i had previously drove pin high into the left rough...having that confidence from last time and one hell of a day hitting my driver I drove it right onto the fringe of the green...it was about a 25 ft putt, uphill and to the left and I knew I didnt have much of a shot making it, but of course I rolled it to about 4 in and it just stopped...Those were my only two birdies all day and I shot my best round ever which was an 85 but the only thing I can think about is how I shouldve left today with an eagle under my belt!

Not to be a debby downer but the way you played that par 5 you didn't birdie it you par'd it.

1. Drive

2. Second shot that you didn't go find (so you pretty much played a provisional)

3. Drop

4. 4 iron on to green

5. putt

Lol nice...thanks for the input

this is my first year really getting into golf so im not 100% on all the rules...I kinda thought I messed that score up though, just didnt really care because I was playing by myself.

Yeah, like tracker said the first one was par, not birdie...

Other than that, congrats... it's nice to hit good shots; the more you play and practice the more of them you'll hit... I've been playing nearly 10 years now (only recently have I got serious about it again) and still haven't had an eagle... hopefully soon though.
