Sergio missed a par put and when he tapped in he spit in the cup! The camera's caught it - what a JERK. How about the next guy who has to take his ball out of there?
Jimmy Roberts asked him about it after the round and he tried to play it down but was clearly caught off guard.
Don't you think he should have apologized?

He is an A**,Friday he yelled at a spectator telling him how hard the shot was to play after he hit the shot into the water.
If they have a penalty for what he did (spitting in the cup) I'm sure he now knows what it is,(strokes or disqualification) if anything.

If Sergio indeed needlessly yelled at a fan and spit in a cup during a tournament, well then, that is a shame. Of course, I was, for years, under the impression that only nice people played golf, but I was disabused of that unrealistic and gross generalization by a particularily loud, unfriendly, obnoxious and unattractive fellow who plays regularly at my club. I thought at first this fellow was just an abberation; but no, I saw a vestigial cousin of his at a very swanky club a few weeks after I met the former fellow. I suppose the moral is that people being who they are, there will always be in a crowd a few really fine folks, some who are so-so, and then, a few louts. I guess it would seem that Sergio may fit into the latter group or, to be more generous, perhaps he was just having a bad day, in which case we may forgive him.

Euro Trash, like the lot of them...that's quite a generalisation isn't it ?

He spat in the cup, didn't beat his wife/partner, or steal from anyone or arrive at the tournament drunk or give up when he had a bad round, or gamble away millions in earnings...what he did was wrong, but lets get a bit of perspective he spat in the cup and had a go at a spectator ( still mild compared to what Steve Williams gets up to most rounds )

Sergio is Euro Trash like the lot of them... He is a spoiled brat.

His behaviour was disgraceful but nothing will be done of any real consequence because as usuul the mighty dollar will be considered more important. However I am curious who are "them" the Eurotrash that you refer to ?

Yes it is. So let's just keep it at trash. I do not know where you are from; but where I live, someone spits on you or something of yours, they are demeaning you in a big way. He spit in a cup and if I am playing behind him, I have to reach in that cup. He might as well spit on my car door handle.

Until this incident, I liked Sergio. He had me fooled. He is nothing more than immature trash. There is no other way to explain that action.

I saw this live... until the camera quickly went someplace else. Johnny Miller saw it too, started to make a comment then didn't say anything.

It was classless and Sergio making it out to be no big deal doesn't help him. Still, I think Sergio has matured quite a bit. While he gets paid millions of dollars to keep his cool, he's still human. I'm not saying I would have spit in the cup or anything like that but I will say that if a camera was on me all round long I'd be bound to do/say something I shouldn't. Sergio is good for the game IMO and let's hope that this is an isolated incident.

You can call him euro trash if you want (I don't agree) but you must at least recognize the fact that there's plenty of american trash out there as well. Daly? How about Boo Weekley? He doesn't spit in the cup but he spits his chaw all over the green and fairways.

On Saturday Sergio missed his par putt on, I think the 15th and after he finished the hole he spit in the cup. The camera caught this (before they quickly switched off of him).

It's absolutely unacceptable behavior. Sergio should be fined/suspended from tour events. It's disgusting and EVERY player after him had to stick his hand in the cup to fish there ball out of the cup where that sissy, classless euro-brat left his loogie. To make it even worse, he barely acknowledges that something wrong was done and that "it's no big deal." Maybe people should take turns spitting into his golf bag or his Adidas shoes to see if that also is "no big deal."

"Just hit the freakin' ball."

    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
    • This is my opinion as well. I would love to see the LPGA take the lead on this.    This.
    • I agree in general. The one way in which the viewer will notice the pace of play is just that "it's been an hour and Nelly Korda or Scottie Scheffler have only played four holes." Or if for some reason they show a lot of shots of players just standing around when they could be showing golf shots. But I think Andy Johnson said it most recently/best, playing fast is a skill, too. I would love for pro golfers to play faster. You'd see the players you want to see hit more shots in the same time than they do now. So I don't disagree with the pace of play stuff, and hope they can find ways to do it. Heck, the LPGA should leap at the chance to differentiate itself in this way, IMO. So: I stand by what I said in that the TV viewer really doesn't notice much about pace of play. It's rare when they do. I support increasing the pace of play wholeheartedly. But my top five reasons don't include TV ratings or viewership.
