After 50++ years of downhill skiing, my knees can't take any more.  So I have just completed 8, introductory, golf lessons in Maine, and we will be moving to our new retirement home in Fountain Hills next month (September 2011).  My purpose in writing is to ask for advice concerning  low-key, 3-to-4 par, courses in Mesa, Scottsdale or FH.  In other words, courses suitable for a golfing "newbie."  Any advice you can provide will be appreciated.  MaineDon

I'm pretty sure that you will have to take some lessons in AZ.

The lessons in Maine won't work in a dry, hot climate.

I wouldn't worry too much about picking a course that is open to new players as every course has them, and all of us were new players at one time or another.

The big thing is to spend some time at the range and golf with someone who can show you the ropes and help you make your way around.  With your apparent athletic abilities, it won't be long until you are having a great time and  better than lots of recreational golfers who don't improve much because they don't work on their game.
