I few years ago I purchased new Cleveland Launcher Irons with Stiff flex graphite shafts. I can't seem to hit them at all, almost every shot ends up left. Now if I use my dad's Ping G5 irons with steel shafts, I hit the ball straight as an arrow. Is the problem my shafts? What are my solutions? I was thinking of getting my irons re-shafted with steel shafts, but I'm not sure if that will fix the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I have a set of i3 blades that I stuck a set of Penley stealth 80 stiffs in. When swung correctly, they are as accurate as anything else I own. But, having played them only a few times, I get in trouble with the overall lighter club coming through a little early...  :)

My S400s, maybe because of their weight(?), are a little easier to keep on plane and in sync, but I loose a little distance because of the heavier club. Not enough to worry over though. They (steel) are harder on my hands/wrists, which is the reason for the graphite experiment.

Quality graphite shafts, of a proper weight and flex to your swing, are not unto themselves the problem IMO. Now, they may be too light for your swing and you're pulling/yanking them all over the place, but that's not the shaft's fault. :)

You might want to have someone take a look at your swing and clubs and see if they are a match or not. Then decide what to do.

Thanks for the tip, I never even thought that the club might be too light for me. I really should have someone look at my swing though, I just don't know where I could go to do that

Ask at your local golf course pro-shop. Where I am at there is Golf Galaxy, Golfsmith, and GolfTec. I believe that they also have a fitting station at most Dick's Sporting Goods as well. Pretty much anywhere you would be able to buy higher end clubs should have something. Some of the more "quality" driving ranges also will have a setup as they generate more business with selling grips and shafts.

It's not who you are in life, but what you do and how you treat others that makes the difference.......
