I've bought heads  (Nakashima NX-1), shafts (true temper wedge) and some grips for my first try at some clubfitting. I've fitted a number of grips before and read a couple of guides to club shafting, so I'm confident it's fairly straightforward. However if any of the seasoned sandtrap fitting pros have any hints, tips or things to watch out for I'd be most appreciative of any advice.

Thanks,

Sam

Measure twice, cut once!

http://www.golfworks.com/images/art/2008HowToBuildClubs.pdf

It's really not much different from any other home project.  Make sure you have everything you need before you start.

Heads

Ferrules

Shafts

Grips

Grip tape and solvent (or painters tape if using air to install)

2-part epoxy

Shafting beads (optional)

Sandpaper or Emory cloth (~ 100 grit)

Mixing sticks (of some sort) for the epoxy

Paper towels

Tool to cut the shafts (tubing cutter or chop saw)

Masking tape

Mild solvent to clean excess epoxy

Sharpie pen

A small socket and hammer (to start the ferrule onto the shaft, optional)

48" ruler

Electric scale (optional)

Swingweight scale (optional)

Tip weights, or tungsten/lead powder and corks (optional)

I say optional on those last three because they are not really required for assembley , but if you want them swingweighted correctly, you should either have them, or have access to them.  You can get the swingweights close by sorting components by weight, and/or using a simple spreadsheet, but I like to dry assemble everything first and hang on the swingweight scale so I can make adjustments before gluing.

Here are a couple others if you want to get really anal about it!

Many thanks for that Glock - a great help! I will let you know how I get on.

I guess they are the same series of irons, but I've just got a couple of wedges which are more of a straight blade design.

Here's a link to Dave Tutelman's site, he has a great deal of information about club building.  It's mostly from an engineering point of view.
