to start I carry

nike machspeed driver 9.5 degree with stiff shaft

nickent 3dx hybrid 20 degrees

nike ignite irons 4-pw

nike sv 52 and 56

ping karsten anser 34 inch

the problem is i have an approach wedge which comes with my nike set, i removed this to put in my 52 which to my knowledge is a gap wedge, i was wondering if my 52 degree sv and a wedge are basically the same like i think they are and weather i should carry them both or if someone knows the degree of a nike a wedge. I also removed my lob wedge as i didn't play great with it and much preferred to open the face on my sand wedge. also any advice on weather i should add a 3 or 5 wood to my bag because my knowledge isnt great!

replies would be muchly appreciated

thanks!

I believe the AW should be about 50*. Personally I think your set up would be fine without the AW. I would recommend adding a 3 wood in there as well and that would be about it.

The better you get, you can put the LW back in your bag to make it a full 14 club set.

Ryan

For what it's worth, here's the Ignite club specs from EHow:

http://www.ehow.com/info_8324226_nike-ignite-irons-degrees.html

The loft on the shorter Ignite clubs:

SW = 54°  |  PW = 46° |  9i = 42°  | 8i = 38°  //

Given these lofts, it's likely Ignite AW = 50°

If you like the SV 52 and 56, go  with them and drop the AW

Then, for short term, add a 3W and 5W for extra distance.

If you don't like the LW, don't carry one. The past year, I have run into several pros and college golfers who have the 56° as their highest lofted wedge; like you, they just open the face a little for pop shots.

Last fall I dropped a 56° in favor of a 54 + 58 (dropped 4 iron also). BUT, I find four wedges is a lot to practice, and may drop back to 3 wedges (with 56°)

Focus, connect and follow through!
