Alright, so for christmas I'll be getting new irons of my choice as long as I get one grade up (which should happen with effort). I can pretty much get anything under $700. I'm 14 and about a 21 handicap, just picked up the game in July. So far I've narrowed it down to 5 sets.

1. Titlest AP1 710, 4-GW

2. TaylorMade R11 5-PW

3. TaylorMade Burner 2.0 5-PW

4. TaylorMade Tour Preferred CB 4-PW

5. TaylorMade Burner Plus 4-PW

I'd prefer one of the newer sets instead of Burner Plus irons, because I'd rather have newer technology. I'm probably going to hit the majority of them at a local Golf Town.  My question is, will any of these be to hard to hit for me? I've made a lot of progress for 3 months, I probably end up playing 30-40 rounds a year. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would go with either the R11's or the TP's.  Forgiving but both look good at address.  I don't think they are too hard to hit, especially as fast as you'll improve.

I know this is the advice that no one wants to hear but I would try and wait until next summer to buy new clubs. Obviously I have no idea what your playing but it seems likely that you will outgrow anything you buy in the next 2 years.

That being said, if you are buying clubs don't limit your self by internet reviews. You should try everything in the store that is in your price range that looks remotely close to what you want. You might surprise yourself. I am also a big fan of last years technology. Irons in general have only minor improvements over the past 10 years and you can save a lot of money (more money for wedges/putters). Your mileage may vary.

I was going to hit the one's besides the 2.0's and burner pluses at golf town. I already know I can hit the 2.0's and burner pluses. My irons right now are awful and aren't helping me improve at all. I'm on the golf team as well so I need the biggest advantage possible.

Im not going to tell you what to buy, but the variation in models there is pretty big. The TP CB and the 2.0, massive difference in those 2 sets. You need to decide on whats still going to be useful to you as your game evolves. Im tipping those 2.0's will not be the ones. In fact, when you get to low teens, you'll hate them and will want something with more feel. Of those listed, the TP CB's would be my choice, even if they are a little too much club for you right now.

Yeah I'm aiming for a set that would be useful for me in the future as well. The 2.0's were probably one of my lower choices. The AP1's and TP CB's were at the top.

    • Day 3 (23 Jun 26) - Grandson put in to play this morning when he arrived at the house.  He wanted to play a full 18 from the "purple" tees (these are custom tees that play shorter than our gold but longer than the red) in a best (super) ball duet.  Was a great day working on course management - seeing him play well (for a 10yr old) - for example, hole 12 has a temp green about 100 yds from the tee box, he hits a solid 8i to 4' pin high and nails a birdie putt.  Could have never been prouder.  These are the moments grandfathers dream of - and hopefully the memories he will recall when his day comes to be Paw-paw for his grandson....may the game live on.
    • I  had to return to boast  just a  bit. Everyone  knows  i thought  this  is  how the Championship should  be decided. Match play is far  better than stroke  play to determine a  champion and  its  much closer to most sports  playoffs. Lose and you are  out.     Promotion, relegation and match play: PGA Tour unveils radical new structure The PGA Tour has revealed its planned changes to its competitive model, schedule and playoffs, changes that will be more substantial than any in the Tour's half-century-long history. How will the PGA Tour series wrap up its season? The current PGA Tour playoff format consists of three stroke-play events, concluding with the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Starting in 2028, the Tour's playoff system will feature match play, and will rotate through various courses. Further details will be revealed at this year's Tour Championship next month.
    • Posted a couple swings here. I think my attempt to blend the movement still results in a more “around” back swing?
    • I never heard dislike for them.  From my perspective, they are just like any other club. Though, they were always probably over-priced, until recently as other club manufacturers have been raising prices the past 5+ years. You had to wait for them to go on sale, which you can get them closer to other club manufacturers.  They sell good clubs. Nothing crazy..
    • Why do so many people dislike PXG clubs and constantly criticize them? All the folks at my club and especially online, I never hear good things about them except from people who bought them and defend them. They look fine to me but curious is there some sort of quality issue or is it just stereotyping the buyers.
