  1. 1. Should a Nationwide Tour win by an amateur count towards the NW Tour Championship and help earn a PGA Tour card?

Two amateurs, Russell Henley and Harris English have won this year on the Nationwide tour.  They have both since turned professional and have NW status secured for 2012 with their wins.  Unlike the Fed Ex Cup, entry into the NW Tour Championship is based on $, not points, so amateur results don't count for anything.

Same goes finishing top 25 on the NW Tour to earn your PGA card- it is $ collected, not good finishes that count.  This is a huge difference, especially for English who has a t3 and playoff loss in 3 events as a pro.  Count "points" for the Am results and he would have enough in his 6 NW events to be 9th with his tour card locked.

As it stands, English is 61st and hoping for a good result this week to get into the NW Tour Championship.  Instead, Kyle Reifers, gets credit for English's win and will likely be moving on to the PGA despite the fact he has missed over half his cuts and has no other top 3 finishes in 21 events (compared to 3 top 3s for English with only 1 missed cut).

Not counting the tourny English has won more money in his 3 events as a Pro than REifers has won the entire 2011 season (if you don't count the event English won and Reifers collected the check).  The OWGR have it right by having English ranked over 150 places higher (in part because he got points for the win even if he didn't accept the $.

Reifers should get to keep the money, but not why not give the  credit of a win to English (and Henley) for getting into the NW Tour Championship and earning a PGA Tour card?

Before anyone says anything, I realize that an Am win on Tour doesn't get you into the Tour Championship as points are only awarded to PGA Tour members, but at least the win gets you a job for years.

I should add that I am not proposing to take anything away from Reifers retroactively.  I am sure he is a very good player who knew that English and co-2nd Peters were am and that he would get 1st $ if they were the only ones ahead of him.

    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
