I only play alone when I want to practice on the golf course.  Usually being paired with any random group works out ok for me.  Many resort courses really dont want singles on the course, so they will tend to auto pair you anyway.  Just call ahead and have them pair you ahead of time, that way you will have a better chance of being in a group similiar to your skill level.

So in the end, it doesnt matter where you go to play golf, but for sure, since your wife doesnt play, I'd go where she wanted to go and then scout out courses in that area on the internet before arrival.  Golflink is a good site to start with.

Anywhere in the world is the best place.....Just be sure to have the first tee time

I always play on family vacations......I play early and it's all good.  I will say this....the Caribbean folk like to sleep.  I usually make the turn before the 2nd group even made it to the first tee....LOL

A nice place to play in the 'rib...

I've played this course 3 times and barely seen another golfer. (early golf)  Just make sure you are there at the crack of dawn, and you will be back at your hotel before you are missed.  I've taken trips with my wife before we had kids and played golf.....it was never an issue because I played very early.
