Here is my swing and after reading the whole "Slide your hips" thread, I can see how "open" my heps are at impact. I didn't slide, but just rotated on the axis.

The other thing I am working, as suggested from a fellow redditor, is my shoulder plane is too flat, and I need to steepen the shoulders to point a few feet outside the golfball, instead of at the clubhouse...


From what I can tell from that angle, you're too far away from the ball. Bring it in a little bit. Also, you're not taking the club far back. You look a little too stiff. You need to take the driver's shaft to parallel to the ground.


Definitely stand closer to the ball.  That'll help you have better posture too.  Your swing is very rotary too.  That's part of why you're wrapping around the ball and pulling that shot.  I'd say a steeper shoulder plane and actually sliding the hips - instead of just reading about it :) - are good places to start.

I see what your saying about standing too far, I will practice on bringing it closer. Any rule of thumb on how far you should stand? I always have problems judging that. Thanks for the advice.

Here's a Face On Video. Man, I can't believe how many flaws I see.

  • Hand Movement right before the take away.
  • Left arm bent at top of swing.
  • Rotating on the downswing, instead of sliding.

Just from what I notice.


Okay, here is what I see.

-You still need to stand closer to the ball. Even in your recent videos you still haven't done that. What you need to do is to watch this video of Rory Mcilroy using the driver and irons and see how he is at address.

When he is using his driver, his hands are right under his head. When he is using a shorter club(irons), his hands are between his head and hip. This help keeps his golf shaft at 45 degree angle.

-Also, your golf plane is incorrect. This top example shows exactly what you are doing.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I can see that I am definately OTT. One thing I notice is my head dips, and after looking ata FO view, it's when I start the downswing. When attempthing to slide the hips, I am shifting the left shoulder to the left as well and my head is following it. This of course changes the downswing plane to come OTT.

I will work on the following:

Stand closer to the ball (hands under head for deiver, and hands under bottom of sternum to start), which will lead to...

Steeper club plane on upswing.

One other question that I think I see, but could use a second opinion..my back heel seems to come off the ground during the backswing. What should that back foot be doing on back and down swings?

I will practice the address and steeper take away and upload a new video.. i didn't really change anything from the 1st to 2nd set of videos.

If you look at your drive picture head on, your shoulders are "chasing" your arms. your swing starts with your arms moving back then you shoulders start turning, which makes your hips seam out of time with your upper body. Think of you left arm and should are one.

I hope I didnt confuse you but, I used to do the same thing.

OK, here are two videos I took last night DTL. I am standing, what I feel is, colser to the ball. My focus was one piece take away, and hip sliding (that's a bit harder to do than say).

I can't get a feel for what I am supposed to be doing with the driver.

After watching the first S&T; video, I see another problem within my back swing. I am getting too much flexion on my lead arm (left) causing my right arm to bend and the elbows to separate and results in reduced wrist cock. I am going to have to concentrate a bit on allowing the left arm to bend 90 degrees. Does anyone have any tips for this?


Much, much better. I think you need to bring your hands in a little more at your setup. Just a tad bit. From your recent videos, you really look like you're standing closer to the ball.

Also, you're still swinging OTT. Keep looking at how tour players swing the club on youtube. Look how they're literally taking the club up and then when they downswing, they swing flatter than their backswing. This helps you not strike at the ball but rather make a consistent, more power, accurate swing. Get that club to hit the ball from the inside, not the outside.

I think the OTT has to do with the fact that I have to much flexion in my elbows at the top of the swing causing my left arm to bend and the elbows to separate and results in reduced wrist cock. Because the elbows "seperate" i think it's pulling my hands up and when i start the downswing I am already OTT.

You said moving your hands at the start of your swing is something you see wrong.  That's not necessarily wrong.  Some instructors would say otherwise I think, but that can be a way to start setting the wrists early.  Stadler does this a lot.

You're casting a lot.  This is connected to your rotational swing where you don't get your hips forward.  When you start your swing by spinning your shoulders and then hips, you start an OTT move, and to make contact with the ball at all you have to cast the club and then pull it back across.  Otherwise you'd shank it or miss the ball entirely.

I think it's because when you take your club back at parallel, your hands should be over your toes and your club head should be behind your head. Hands in, clubhead out.
