I know you've probably heard this scenerio a billion times but you will have to hear it once more.

I am a 7 handicap who is currently playing a set of Taylormade blades, feel great but I think I need to move to a more forgiving set. Note: I am 17 years old and very strong, most of the time people switching to easier irons are good golfers getting older.

I was going to wait until next year to switch my irons, but Michigan's high school golf schedule changed to the spring.....BULL S**T . I was expecting to get my new irons next spring and have all summer to play with them before the season in the fall. Now I am getting my irons in the summer so I have at least the summer and part of fall before I put them into play in the spring.

Anyways, here is a list of irons I am going to demo:
1. Titleist 755
2. Titleist 695 cb
3. Taylormade r7 TP
4. Mizuno MP 60
5. Callaway Forged
6. Ping S58

Please add any that you think I'm missing or add coments if you've had experience with these clubs/ were in my position at one time.

I would go with the mizuno mp-60 or mp 67's, I also heard good things about the Cobra Forged CB. I didn't know taylormade made pure blades. I thought the only forged iron they made were the rac mb's which were cavity backs.

I went through the same thing. Was looking for a forgiving players iron and checked out all the ones on your list. I didn't like the Titleist at all (after playing with DCIs for 14 years) - I didn't think that the Mizuno irons were as forgiving or as long as the R7 TP or Callaway X-20 Tours and those were the two clubs i narrowed it down to. I ended up getting the Callaway, I just seemed to be the most consistent with those - they also come with a ton of standard shaft options.

Go to the main page of this site. Scroll down the right side until you get to the review link. Click on clubs. Check out the superb reviews, especially the one written about the Titleist 755s. If I were in your shoes, I would definitely give those clubs a try. Best of luck to you.

I would say when you compare clubs that you hit equally well pick the ones that you think look the best. Some like a thin top line and some don't care, some like the CB/MB look on the back of the club and some don't.

When I was looking for new iron I found that I hit them all so equal that it probably wouldn't have mattered which I picked so I picked the ones I liked, the ones that were the most pleasing to my eye.

I have had my new irons for about 3 weeks now (I went with the MP-67), I have used them for 2 rounds now. First time out with them and I hit 12 greens and the second time I hit 10 green....too bad I can't putt to save my life right now :(

I was in a custom fitting shop the other day. Their theory on fitting is that the shaft is the engine and the head is the body style. So pick the head that looks best to you and try different engines er, shafts that fits your driving style.

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there.
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
