Nike VR Driver Cracked (pic)!

This past weekend, I was driving the ball fairly well until we got to the 11th hole of a local course outside of Chicago, where I heard a dull yet loud pop off the club face and a 150 yard flight at best.  Upon examining the club, my whole group was completely dumb-founded as you'll see by the picture, my club had a crack all the way up the compression channel.  I didnt hit the ground or anything yet it completely is a dead stick now.  The club has been sent back to Nike and we'll see what they say, but i'm hoping they get it replaced (I dont feel like dropping a few hundred dollars this season on a new club).

I've now experienced a cracked shaft, a cracked connector (shaft to club head connector), and now a cracked head.  Moral of the story...dont buy a Nike driver or the golf gods are telling me to quit...

Has this type of crack ever happened to anyone else with any manufacturer?

Nike will replace it for sure.

Callaway FT drivers are notorious for falling apart at the seams. Literally.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Good to know.  This will be the third time i've sent this club back to Nike so they have a record of what's happened before.  I'm losing my faith in Nike drivers though...

I've had that happen a few times with fairly new Callaway drivers. It was a 2010 Callaway FT Tour. First time happened on the range. Just heard a pop and the composit seal had cracked. Similar to yours. Second time happened on the course. This time it went crack and I split it down the middle of the driver. Third time I sent it back, the shaft started pulling out of the hosel. All three were replaced in about 2 weeks free of charge. After that, I was kind of standoffish hitting it after that. It was a terrible design that year.

Wow quality stuff there from Nike huh? Maybe they should have stuck with just the shoes.

I've had a Nike Dymo^2 in my bag for almost two years with no problems. Furthermore, every manufacturer has had clubs break, and for the most part, each does a good job of fulfilling replacements as these things happen.

Did you read his entire post? He states this is the third problem he's had. A cracked shaft, and a cracked head connector, before the now cracked head.

Thats definetely  a tad excessive for sure but companies are pretty good with replacing them I find.  Ive had it happen to similar sporting equipment (snowboards) where the company literally has a bad batch of product.  I went through 4 brand new products until finally they just sent me a new model from a different year.

Driver: RBZ 9.5° Stiff

Woods: :nike:VR_S Tour 2.0 15° Stiff

Hybrids:  910H 21° Stiff

Irons: 4-GW Pro Black CB1 with Project X rifle 6.0

Wedges:CC Jaws 56°.14° 60°.08°

      It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…

      I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
