I wanted to get your advice on the right combination of Driver head and shaft choice.

The specifications I am going to give you come from a PGA Tour Superstore salesman on their golf simulator, a Golfsmith salesman on their golf simulator, and PING demo day trackman.

Handicap: 6

1)  Current Driver - Cleveland HiBore XL 9.5

Current Shaft - Diamana Whiteboard Stiff 73gm

Swing speed with current driver - 98 to 104

Results - too low launch angle with total carry between 245-265 yards

2)  Fitting

Driver - PING G20 and i20

Stock Shaft - PING TFC 169D Tour Stiff 63gm

Swing Speed with the 63gm shaft - 102-109

Results - better launch angle with total carry between 255-285 yards

My question:

I am going to change the stock shaft out when I get my new Driver.  I want to get a shaft that has a higher launch angle that still has low spin.  Should I go with a Diamana Blueboard 63gm?  The specs show it to have a higher launch angle and the 63gm shaft should get my swing speed up where I want it.  Is there another shaft that you think would be a good option as well?  Should I look at a Redboard or 'ilima or Kai'll?  I have pretty much convinced myself to get 63-65gm shaft, but the type of shaft is where I am having trouble.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Mitsubishi recommended the Kai'li or the Fubuki K.  Have you guys used either of these shafts?

I seemed to really like the Kai'li...61gm stiff.  The fitter was mentioning something about having it "tipped" so it would play somewhere between stiff and x-stiff.  I thought I knew a lot about equipment, but wasn't really sure what that involved or whether it was a good idea.

    • This isn't going to show you lateral dispersion at all. It's basically just a radar (for speed) launch monitor. It doesn't measure spin or anything like that. Not even launch direction.

    • Interesting changes. The idea of relegation and promotion have always been there in a different form (getting and losing your card etc and qualifying for bigger events) but it looks like they want to define it better for top tier events. The Tour has always had A and B level events (and even lower). It will be interesting what they choose as the Challenger Series events and whether some tournaments go to the Challenger Series that used to be prestigious. Not sure how the networks will take to this knowing they have “Challenger” Series events defined that way now. Also, I’m not happy that John Henry and Theo Epstein are involved. Look what Henry has done to the Red Sox.
