I was at Myrtle Beach last week playing 6 rounds with some friends over a 4 day period and throughout the week, I really figured out why I love and hate this game at the same time.  Some examples:

#1 hole at the first course we played, a Par 5.  Hit a short drive, crushed a 4 Wood to 10 yards, chipped to 3ft. and sank the birdie putt.  Wow, this could be an awesome round.  Proceeded to shoot a triple bogey on the following Par 4.  Doh.

125 yard Par 3, hit a PW to 3ft and was excited.  Got to the ball and there was 2ft of break in this 3ft putt.  Missed it, of course.

Tee'd off on a Par 4 that had a water carry of only about 150 yards.  Barely hit the bottom of the face and sent a straight screamer right towards the water.  The ball skipped 5 times across the lake and ended 10 yards on the other side.  It's better to be lucky than good sometimes, I guess.

Par 3, Island green, 150ish yards.  Had been hitting my irons superbly all day.  Proceeded to shank the ball 45 degrees right about 5 yards from the fringe of another green on the other side of the small lake.  Still had about a 100 yard shot into my green.  After laughing it off, I checked to make sure noone was coming down that hole's fairway and grabbed a 54 degree wedge, still laughing about it and proceeded to hit a shot back across the water to 5ft.  Ended up with a par.

My stock shot with my irons is a baby fade.  We came up to a Par 3 near the end of our week and I was still hitting my irons great.  I hit my stock shot to about 15ft on this 130 yard hole and was pretty happy.  I felt good so I asked my playing partner (a 64 year old, ex-mini tour player) to teach me how to hit a high draw with my irons.  Pulled out my pitching wedge, he gave me about a 30 second explanation and I proceeded to hit the prettiest draw I've ever seen to about 8ft.  On the next hole, I decided to try to hit one again with my 9 iron approach shot and double-crossed it and ended up 20 yards to the right of the green.

Just some of the silly stuff that's happened to me in the past 10 days on the golf course, I'm sure everyone has some funny stories like this, let's hear them.

Having had two back procedures in the last 16 months, I have had the "joy" of learning to play while taking narcotics and muscle relaxers.  My last putt of the weekend was on a very undulating green with the hole on the edge of a ridge that I didn't see. Though I felt like I was uncertain about the terrain (a feeling I had had throughout the round) for my 4 foot second putt to finish with a par, I putted anyway, missed it by half a ball, and watched the ball roll away with increasing speed ... off the green.  Made the two putt up the hill. So...a four-putt to finish a good week of golf and drugs.
