Okay well I have been playing golf since I was about 14. I never took a lesson and I currently play about 2 times a week. (school and job limit this). I didn't play golf both semester at the university so I became a bit rusty but I am starting to shoot into the low 90's, high 80's. I am about 6'2" and have a fairly fast golf swing. My biggest problem by far is my putting, I consistently drive the ball 260+ yards and recently developed a slight fade, but I am sure I can work that out at the driving range. I have been using a set of cobras that was givin to my dad by his buddy, the problem is clubs are fitted for someone who is about 5'8" and 60 years old.

Basicly I am ready to purchase a REAL set of clubs that are fitted for me, but to be honest I am new to this... considering I never purchased a golf club in my life.

So I came here because you all seem fairly knowledgeable (far more than I). Which club for iron and driver would not let me down? Which type of shaft should I purchase? Is it better to buy online or at a local golf store where they can fit it personally (but I am sure it costs more). Thanks

I would go to a local Golfsmith/ similiar store or a custom fitter and have them set you up.

You more than likely will want stiff shafts in some nice game improvement irons, and a nice forgiving driver.

You'll probably want your clubs to be lengthened an inch or so and maybe bent a little. This is where the custom fitting comes into play.

Callaway has some nice, and moderately priced (for what you get) equipment for beginners.

I love my Cleveland Launcher LP Irons... They are very easy to hit and very affordable for a good quality club... A set of 4-PW is only $248 CDN right now, so you should be able to get a great deal on a good set. I would recommend a hybrid as well, I have a hybrid 3 iron and it is really starting to work out for me...

    • I've been putting whilst looking at the hole and it's definitely helped my distance control
    • I wonder if that is why my home course basically have no stakes now.  Not even markers.  It’s completely up to golfers to remember what is OB and hazard and how things used to be marked.     Even in tournaments, there is no marking and certain areas are played differently by different golfers who either don’t know better or use it to their advantage funny reading thru this with courses that actually have markers
    • is it though?????? "Millions of fans"?????
    • Great post, thanks for the informaiton. I try to avoid adding salt to anything I eat. I tend to add pepper on to my meals as opposed to salt. And I am trying to eat as clean on possible. On golf day, I eat 3 eggs for breakfast (pepper NO salt) and a salad for lunch, with grilled chicken thigs (pepper, garlic, no salt). I have been trying to avoid processed food, but we all slip. I also should have mentioned that the electrolyte packet calls for mixing with 16 oz of water, however I mix in 32 oz of water, so I dilute the electrolyte powder.
    • So if I read the news correctly, the PIF will not fund LIV after this season.  LIV is trying to find new funding and a number of players there are now asking about getting back to the Tour.    I am very, very concerned that Taylor Gooch will not have a place where he can make a jackass out of himself soon
