I've been playing these R7 draws for about three years now after having them handed down as my first real set of clubs.  I feel like I'm ready to upgrade, though, but I'm really unsure where to take it.  I play at about an 18 handicap and am combining upgraded clubs with lessons from a PGA tour professional in hopes of bettering my game to a 10-12 handicap.

I've tested a few different clubs but I can't really make an objective decision because my swing is in shambles right now.  I haven't been able to practice legitimately in a solid two months because our driving range has been closed for renovations.  Right now in terms of clubs I'm looking at Adams Idea Pro a12s, Adams Idea Pro Blacks CB2s, Cobra S3s, TaylorMade Burner 2.0s, and Cleveland CG16s.  I just kinda want some general opinions on these clubs and what may be best for a golfer of my stature.  Thanks.

I am always a fan of a person upgrading to better players clubs, but as an 18 hcp, im not sure it is the best idea. Unless there are alot of dings, scratches, and the grooves are worn down i dont think getting new irons will lower your hcp by 8. You said yourself that your swing isnt right, so getting new clubs wont magically fix it. I would fix your swing then at that point decide if you want new clubs or not.

As for you club choices, there is a pretty big range you have. Adams Pro A12 is on the better players side and Cobra S3 is a very forgiving GI club. If you do decide to get new clubs, i would get the CB2. They are a little more forgiving than the A12 but still an upgrade from the R7. The Burner 2.0 is good too but they strengthen the lofts by about 3* so they give this false sense of distance. Now if/when you get to that 10 hcp range then Pro A12 will be a great choice. As a higher hcp you want your long irons to be easy to hit and the A12 might be a little tough. Of course if you try out all the clubs and the A12 works for you, then by all means get them.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
