Is it possible for the head on a driver to "turn" without feeling loose?

I recently had my TE Exotics driver re-gripped because the grip was no longer square to the driver head. Now after a couple of weeks the grip again appears to shifted to the right. With grip square the head is clearly over rotated to a closed position.

When I try to 'muscle' the grip back to square there is no play in it. Seems solid!

I have also tried rotating the driver head... it too does not appear to move?

Is it possible the driver head is moving ever so slightly on each hit?

But is not loose enough that I can feel it?

I'm thinking of marking the shaft with tape to a square position then marking hosel...

Then examining it after a couple of rounds to see if there is movement.

I hate to heat and re epoxy if there is no problem... but something is going on.

Anyone had a situation like this ????

Sounds like whoever did your grip didn't do a good job aligning or it hadn't dried before you used it.

I always wait a day before using club after a grip installation.

I swear it did look square... but doesn't now 2 weeks later.

If the head was moving in tiny increments it would be leaving setup open correct?

The impacts would push the head "back" thus it would set up open?

If the grip moved at impact wouldn't it move forward (shaft backward)....

Again leaving the club set up open ???

My "physics" skills are equal to my mechanical skills... both horrible.

Bottomline the club clearly sets up VERY closed...

I know I would have noticed it immediately after the grip installation...

I even think the 'printing' on the club is not in the same place...

This happened to me as the epoxy in my TM Superfast broke down. I noticed a loss of distance and a bad slice creeping in at the same time. At first it was very subtle, then the head began creeping off the shaft.

So maybe I am not imagining it after all...

I'm going to put piece of tape on shaft and  2nd piece on head,

mark both with straight line and see if anything is moving...

Think I will do the same with grip and shaft as well...

Did you notice the shift immediately on your TM?

Or only when head showed a gap below ferrell(sp) ?

BTW My Exotics 3 wood DID come loose 2 years ago,

But that was immediately visible... Maybe a Tour Edge flaw ?

It took me a couple trips to the range to figure it out. The driver felt a little dead at impact. I thought I was just hitting the ball really poorly, and didn't have a clue what was going on until I noticed the grip wasn't lined up. Once I noticed that I stuck the clubhead between my feet and twisted on the shaft, and sure enough it was loose.

If you waited at least an hour or so after your grip was set, it shouldn't be moving. I'm guessing you are having the same problem that I did.

By chance do you remember if your club head had shifted to a closed?  or open position?

Went to the range today, used tape and marks as noted before...

I found no additional shift...

I will try your testing technique using feet to lock clubhead - twist shaft with hands.

As for the feel at hit it does feel erratic but operator error is always a possibility!

Thank you for your follow up.

BTW How much heat would I need to loosen the epoxy ?

Could I heat, shift head, and cool reusing the epoxy already there?

Or is that just a disaster waiting to happen?

Pro Shop that does best repairs is about an hour each way away.

And then they often want you to leave the club... up to 4 hours travel time!

Clubhead shifted open. My grip had gone left of center. As far as heating up the head, you can use a heat gun for that, but the epoxy isn't going to reset itself. You will need to remove the head and clean off the old epoxy and redo it.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
