Hi all

Im a 20 handicaper and have just bought a set of Ping G20 SW-5.  I have been lovin them since i have had them and they have def helped my game and scores!

The only issue is with my wedges for the shorter shots just out from the green im finding the PW (45 degree) is going to far.  I changed down to the SW (54 degree) and this was ok for a bit but think i need something inbetween the 2 that im confident with.

Had a go on my mates 52 degree ping wedge and it felt nice, so im now wondering whether to get a 50 or 52 degree wedge to help inbetween? Have my eye on a cleveland cg14 52 second hand to try, but now sure if a 50 degree would be better.

SO.......any advice would be more than welcome!!!

What should i get loft wise and any tips on whats good?

MANY THANKS in advance.

It really does matter how much green you have to work with and slope between you and the hole. I think a 54* is a really good loft for alot of shots around the green. I have a 50*,54*, and 60* in my bag.

45 is a really strong PW so yes, a gap wedge would serve you well.

Also, be aware that the space between shaft lengths is different for Ping wedges and numbered irons (this is case with most clubmakers).

Shaft length difference between numbered irons is 1/2". But, for G20: 9i to PW is only 1/4", and then the PW and UW have same shaft length of 35.5", and UW to SW and SW to LW is 1/4" difference. So, you will have a lesser distance gaps between wedges than between numbered irons.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
