any here ever played golf in kauai? going for a week with my wife and wanted to see if there are any courses worth playing. She doesn't play so ideally a place where making a tee time in advance as a single wouldn't be an issue.

I've played a few courses in Kauai.Princeville Makai course is beautiful with 3 nines and nice views.Kiahuna in Poipu is a nice course and Poipu Bay course is awesome with amazing views of the ocean.I heard the Kauai Lagoons courses are fun too.Jack Nicklaus designed.

Have fun

Don't know if you've already gone:

While on my honeymoon (I know, what a wife), I played princeville and the muni near the airport.

Princeville was as advertised. Stunning views, incredibly difficult holes that require prime shot making. Then other holes that are forgiving. I thought for the price (up to 195) that the course would be in pristine shape, manicured etc. It wasn't perfect, but very very good. I'd go back if I had the chance. My wife got a massage while I played the front 9 and then rode along with me on the back. It was NO PROBLEM getting a tee time---not a ton of people on the course for that price.

The muni--it was called.....Wailua. No tee times at twilight--only something like 28 to ride. Course is RIGHT ON THE OCEAN. I think four of the holes played right along side it. Was it the perfect course? no---extraordinarily well maintained? no---exciting hole layout? no---....BUT, for 28, playing on the ocean, amidst the palm trees, it was a great opportunity to play a little less stressful golf. I would recommend.

If your wallet is particularly fat- try poipu bay at the grand hyatt. the PGA Grand Slam of Golf used to be held there (might still be)

thanks for the response. staying at the grand hyatt so i will likely play there. have heard some mixed things abou princeville. most like the design but lots say it isn't well kept up. others say it is immaculate.

how crowded is wailua? does it play a 6 hour round like most other good munis (e.g. bethpage)

Ya know, it really wasn't that long. It was probably like 4.5 hrs. And there was a definite line of carts waiting for the first tee. What was key was that all of the foursomes of ladies let us through.

Princeville- like I said, not incredibly manicured for me. But, I guess that's hawaii.

we stayed on the southshore in poipu--I didn't golf at poipu bay, but when we walked down there and I stood out around the course, I had a similar feeling about conditions. That course is more on the water though.

There are also the two courses over by the airport....You get the idea. Lots of courses- you're playing golf in hawaii, it can't be that bad, right?
