i went to the range today to see how my swing had been progressing and started with a 9 iron. beautiful shots, i wanted to cry, doves flew out behind my ball, the sun broke through the clouds.

good in to out divot in front of the ball, right to left ball flight, nice arc.

pulled the 6, same deal. i was really happy.

the 4 iron was a mess. i hit it super thin, so thin that it wouldn't travel past my 6 iron in the air. my hyrbid was the same, and my driver was a variation of hook and snap hook. the hybrid also had a weird deal where it would get up maybe 5 feet in the air and then take a hard nose dive into the ground maybe 20 yards in front of me. very high energy though, like how a low duck hook looks if you were to have it go vertical instead of sideways.

my swing is in a my swing thread, and i guess i've been working on more of a SnT type swing which has helped get my weight off of my back foot immensely, but ever since i started i feel lost with the driver and apparently anything above a 6 iron.

if any of you guys have had experiences that would help or recommendations feel free to drop them here. i'm not a guy who's going to hold your handicap against you when it comes to advice.

Three thoughts

1) Longer clubs are too long??  choke up on the longer clubs PLACE THE RIGHT HAND ON THE SHAFT  It may feel disastrous at first but conduct fair and thorough testing analysis

2) Stop your active right hand from firing the club closed.  Focus on and keep your right forearm equal too or BELOW the left forearm as viewed from behind or in front of you. Do not roll the right forearm over the top through impact. It may feel disastrous at first but conduct fair and thorough testing analysis

3) Make sure your lead arm rises to shoulder high on the back swing. if only arm pit high it may cause severe in to out path severe duck hook spin.

Had the same problem basicly when changing to S&T;, my problem was that I was not just moving my hips forward I moved the head and whole body forward, this created some really unconsistent shots and I was certainly a digger, this worked pretty well with the shorter irons, but the 4i, 5i and driver became messy. Look at your turfs they should be quite long but not very thick if they are you might be doing the same mistake as I was doing (and sometimes still do).

ok i figured it out. i was using too strong of grip and playing the ball too far back in my stance.

the strong grip (as in left hand rotated too far to the right, not actual strength of grip) was causing issues with my driver as well. played a beautiful draw with great distance on the two par 4s with the driver and hit a baby fade to baby draw with my irons tonight, and also managed to pick up a club and a half to two clubs in distance which made me fly the first 3 greens.

i'm not sure i'm even 75% stack and tilt, but keeping my weight on my front foot has been night and day for my ball striking. now i gotta work on the shot game.

i know it's a shameless plug because the guys are on this site, but the evolvr site and teachers really do know what they're doing.
