Ten years ago, I would have listed the TPC Four Seasons in Dallas, but the D.A. Weibring redesign/update definitely improved the course Watching the Wyndham last night just about put me to sleep. Beautifully manicured course, nice clubhouse, etc, but looks bland on TV. Maybe the course is better in person, but on TV other than the 15th hole providing some drama and some tricky long putts on the large undulating greens....meh Firestone Country Club (South Course). Long, narrow, tree-lined hole followed by long, narrow, tree-lined hole.

Doral bores the crap out of me. Typical Florida course with too many traps.

Pros love it though. It's not coincidence the list of winners there include Palmer, Nicklaus, Watson, Norman & Woods (seven times).

You're right, some pros really like Firestone Firestone satellite picture emphasizes the repetitive long, narrow tree ligned design

I don't need a to see a satellite image of Firestone. I grew up in Akron, have played it at least 10 times.

Pros love it cuz it's a no-nonsense tough test. No railroad ties, no island greens...just tough holes. Now, if that's your definition of 'boring' then, well, that's your definition. I assure you the pros don't share that opinion. They love to play it cuz you can't fluke it around there. That's why, again, the winner's list is so impressive.

To show a sat image as your proof is like calling a book boring cuz the cover isn't exciting.

There are a lot of "boring" courses out there because most architects don't have a Georgia plant nursery (Augusta National) or a piece of the Pacific coast (Pebble Beach) to work with, or lots of money to re-shape what they do have.

I agree on Firestone, and posted a comment to that effect a year or so ago. I can't tell one hole from another.

Firestone is anything but boring..  A 2D areal view doesn't do it justice.. Granted that course isn't tricked out with railroad ties and other putt putt obstacles.. but it is one of the favorite stops on tour for a reason.. I've enjoyed playing it, and equally enjoyed watching the Pros play it.. As the old saying goes, "you just have to be there"..

I can. Because I've played it. Which is my point - maybe it doesn't translate well on TV but it ain't boring.

2 is uphill dogleg left par 5. 3 downhill dog right par 4. 4 uphill straight par 4. 6 is dog right p4. 8 is slight dog left p4, and so on. What "looks" boring is anything but. If the point of posting an aerial is to say ooh look - the holes are close together & there are trees, well sure. It's Ohio. We got trees. Big ones.

Firstone was always fun on "Microsoft Golf",lol!

But on a serious note, as good as HDTV is today it still doesn't do justice to the contour and slope of a golf course. You have to have boots on the ground to appreciate a course layout.

Firestone is just a true test of golf. You have to hit fairways and place your approach shots. The greens are lighting fast and have a lot of subtle breaks. To me, that's the game.

In my Callaway stand bag:

9.5 Degree Taylormade Burner Superfast Adilla Voodoo shaft
3 Wood: Cleveland Launcher 15 degree Adilla Voodoo shaft
Irons 3-SW: Callaway X-14 Steelhead

Lob wedge: Cleveland 60 degree

Putter: Ping Anser Karsten

Trying to find some pics that give an ideal of the elevation changes @ Firestone. Here's two of the 16th. The tee is at the high point of the course & this is the view towards the green from about 320y off the tee & about 340y to the green, halfway down the slope:

...and here's the view from the pond in front of the green looking back up the slope:

That ridge bisects the course so at least half of the holes have it in play - 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 16, 17, 18.

That looks boring!!  Where do I sign up for a tee time?

Played there a few times. It's a decent muni at best(in comparison to the other PGA spots). It's an awesome muni in comparison to other munis. Heck, I can hit a ball out of the practice area!
