I would like to get some feedback about a recent fitting for some shafts...please let me know if I am wrong. Went to a club fitter who checked my swing speed with a driver (103, 106, 109, 111, 114) He then built me a driver with a golf geek head, re shafted my 3w, 5w and hybrid. The shafts are Accra Dymathc 2.0 DM MT-70; when i got them to the driving range I could not hit them at all...ball flight was all over the place...high, low, left, right. I thought I might be having an "off" day, so went back two consecutive days and had the same result. After hitting 6 buckets I may have hit 7 balls acceptable. I took the clubs back to the fitter and he had the teaching pro hit the driver, who said that there was nothing wrong with the club...he had me hit the driver and said that I had some issues with my swing...that he would be willing to work on with me. After some more conversation the result was my swing was not right...I had been hitting clubs that were not fit for my swing so I have created manipulations to compensate for the flaws in my swing and now that I have a club that is fit for me...the flaws are evident.

I think that the shafts are too stiff and I was not fitted properly...please let me know if I am wrong or what would you do?

What stiffness did he put you in?  M4 or M5 I'm guessing with that SS.

I play Accra's in my Hybrids, and just picked up a 3wd with an SC 75 M4 in it, I feel like they play pretty stiff to flex.  I play M5s in my Hybrids for control.

That said, unless they're just way off, I can't see how any shaft can cause that much inconsistency...

Well the more I hit them the more consistent they become...always right and low and short. I can hit my 6i farther than my driver now!

OK, M5 is basically XStiff.  I think Accra play plenty stiff to flex, so definitely could be part of your issue.  I have played too stiff a shaft at times, find that I try to jump all over everything because you can't feel the shaft flex in transition which leads to an over the top move...which could be why you're getting that weak fade flight.

I'm not sure of the deal with fitters, but I'd think he'd have to eat the cost of the shafts (minus residual if he can sell them used), so I'd guess that's why he's hesitant to change.

Did he not build a demo club with M5 for you, before building out the actual club(s) with that shaft?

He had me swing a demo club...but not that one...it was a Tour Z and stiff...after me swinging that one, he moved me to the current shaft. I just got off the phone with Accra and they assured me they would make this right.

    • Day 91 (1  Aug 25) - Pre-tournament practice round today…had some great up and downs for par saves.  Rain came in this evening so it will be a totally different playing course tomorrow.
    • Jesus, when he keeps saying scissoring moment, ugh that is a horrible sounding phrase. Just makes me cringe. It doesn't help my mind went to Mr. Garrison from South Park. 🤣 If you know you know.  I think for the most part, golf shaft companies have gotten this figured out. They ask questions like, what tempo do you swing at. The whole scissor terminology sounds like they want to stand out a bit.  Yea, golfers load the golf shaft differently, and different bend profiles can help out. I do think swing speed matters as well. You probably want a golf shaft with lower torque if you swing faster.
    • Played 9 holes, shot a 39.  Kind of got around. Everything between the trees, so in play. Short game was rusty. Got to get back on that. Greens were stupidly slow because they got a lot of rain yesterday and probably couldn't cut them down. Usually in the summer they are firm and pretty fast for how sloped they are. Got to work on face to path a bit.
    • We agree here. Top of the car has a forward force, bottom of the car experiences a backward force via the braking. Both about the COM (somewhere in between). Result is a rotational flip. Since the forward force is still higher the car probably still globally travels forward. Sure, pretty basic. You really think there are deliberate twist forces applied? Like forcing the club head forward and simultaneously forcing grip end in the opposite direction? Heck I don't think we even slow down the grip end deliberately let alone force it the other way. Sorry, if I am missing something here. The orientation change is simple incidental because there is different rate of global movement of grip vs. clubhead throughout the swing. I also happen to think the best swings have the least amount of differential movement between the two end in the impact zone.  In my defense, I never thought one could do justice in covering all aspects of a golf swing in a paragraphs or two to begin with. Especially not with grade school physics..😜 Okay.
    • Wow, @DeadMan that is such a helpful breakdown of what’s around. Really excited to check a bunch of these out. Thank you. Will definitely go to Walnut Creek. Will also try and get a commonground tee time. Haven’t played many Doak courses yet! If your schedule frees up, let me know!
