Is it possible to have my old R9 driver cut down for my 14 yr old son? He's 5'1".

I don't know that you'd want to "cut down" the current shaft. What you can easily do is to take it o Golfsmith or another local equivalent and have the head reshafted to suit him.

That's going to be too dependent on your son for me to even hazard a guess. Someone else may take a swing at it, but I really think the right thing to do is to take both him and the club in....

What's his swing speed? My son is a couple years younger and has not reached his growth spurt age. He's only about 5' and 90 pounds with an 85 mph swing speed. Yet, he does hit an R9 with a regular low kick shaft with 2 inches cut, so your son could be in the same boat. A year ago, I cut an Aldila senior shaft down 2" as he outgrew his max fli set for the same head. Dicks has a sale on Aldila nvs green and gold, for $20 to $30 per shaft and $17 to replace it. Check his swing speed first.
