Hi all,

I've been Playing Golf for: 3 years

My current handicap index or average score is: 28

My typical ball flight is: 60% straight, 30% push, 10% slice

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: topped shots, chicken wing

I know my swing has several faults: I have a slight chicken wing, pulling the left arm up (and also the shoulders), which is probably caused mentally, because I had a shoulder injury and I guess I am afraid of touching the ground to fat.

I have several topped balls, I guess due to the pulled up left arm.

I move a lot to the right, because people told me I am not changing the weight and now I am chaning it too much. :-(

Work on your flexibility.  Flexibility is the key to a good golf swing.  You can also get major power by just doing some flexibility exercises.

Putter:  Classic Black Platinum 1

Driver:  R1 Stiff flex

3 Wood:  AMP - Regular flex, 15 degrees

3 Hybrid:  Baffler T-Rail - Regular flex, 19 degrees

Irons: :tmade: MC Forged - PW-4

ok, thanks. But which major faults do you see? How can I learn NOT to pull up my left arm to avoid topping the ball?

I thought that I am quite flexible, because my shoulders turn more than 90° and the hips 45°.

thanks, marc

Or you can even get in front of a mirror and put a piece of tape on your head.  Make swings keeping it steady, again take note of what feels/images are allowing your head to stay on the tape.

For you it may feel like the hips go forward, towards the target, on the backswing so they don't shift back so far.

Thanks Mike, great!

Actually, I have been swinging with a lot less sideway movement!!! Until someone in another forum told me that I am not shifting my weight and I started to sway.

See this swing which was half a year ago. Ok, I am going up and down, but less sideway movement:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR0qWMUWIUA

So, I guess I can get back there, turning more around my spine and not sideway. I think I can fix this...

Actually, I have compared my swing to Adam Scott's swing with the iSwing app and I don't see THAT many differences. Ok, I am moving sideway, I have a chicken wing and I am not turning enough my right arm over the left arm in the follow through, but the rest (is there any???) is similar. ;-)

So, I will now try to fix the sideway movement and then upload a new video in 1-2 months and then let's talk again.

Thanks for your help!

So guys, I went to the driving range today and pratice a bit. Here is my new swing:

I think I am moving less to the right, turning more around my spine. I still move a bit forward in the downswing (is this bad?). I also hold the club straighter, not too much lean forward. I also think I have a bit less chicken wing. Ok, STILL a lot of work. The right hand is not rolling over enough in the follow through, the left arm still bends a bit and the knees are still a bit too straight..

Is the flexability better? The elbow is still not tucked in, ok. But hey.. I just started to change my swing ... with the first 50 balls.. ;-)

But I understood what you were pointing out here and it's really a great help!!

This swing was with a 7 iron and around 140 meters and straight and high. I made about 20 shots all the same. Then... I guess I was too tired, I ended up with push shots again. But still.. I am happy that your help works!

Thanks again!

Hi there, I've been a bit at the range and tried some things. Here's a new video. I think I sway less and my release is a bit better. thanks, marc

    • Has anyone played around with "My Strategy?"  It seems they've revamped it -- I remember not liking the interface a while ago.  Today I went over a course I play semi-often and was able to designate a tee box for each hole, then choose a a club and target direction and it put my scatter pattern for that club off the tee, showing average SG for fairway / rough / bunker (if appropriate) / green.  I could change the club and see how another behaved.  It wasn't clear to me what I can gain from this, or where the follow-up shot supposedly originates, but it is neat to look at it on a map. What motivated me is that I'm debating taking less than driver on one of the par-4s next time I play this course, probably 4-Wood.  I have found myself, sometimes off of a good tee shot, playing my second shot from the tree line, as the fairway slopes strong left to right.  I don't think I've even had a near-GIR on that hole in 2026 (6 rounds at this course), and it's my second-worst strokes-gained hole, playing to an average of 5.3 for me -- the only worse is a hole where I've hit an O.B. en route to a bogey and also managed a triple bogey another round. Scattering my 4W pattern off that tee shows a higher strokes gained, but then again, hitting that club is far from a guarantee I won't fade it a bit and roll into the tree line, now further back from the green.  And I haven't hit a bunted driver in a while, maybe I need to practice that shot, but that isn't something this feature can show (since it doesn't know why my tee shots ended up where they did).  Then again, it might not know where I was aiming for my tee shots either. On a related note, I am finding their course analysis tool interesting, especially when I can sort by strokes gained average and also determine which hole(s) I'm playing to what stroke average.  Interesting that the #2 and #4 handicap I'm averaging under bogey, while 5-6-7 and 12 handicap holes I'm averaging over bogey.  The hole I described a moment ago is the #12 handicap.
    • Day 28, June 1.  Went to a course near me while running errands to practice putting.  I wanted to chip also but their chipping green was closed. I did my 4' and 6' drills (around the clock, but with the goal of making each putt twice, for a total of 24 from each station).  On the 4' putts, I took a total of 32 putts to sink all 24.  I'm very happy with the 75% make rate (scratch one-putt at that distance is 80%, bogey 65%). For the 6' putts, I took a total of 52 putts, for a 46% make rate (scratch: 55%, bogey 39%).  That's an improvement I'm happy with, and I'm aiming to do this drill once a week for a while, now that my putting (over the past five rounds) is better than the 10 hcp baseline (I'm a 10.7? 10 point something as I type this), which is far better than 6-7 months ago when I was losing strokes to the 25 handicap baseline (I really should write up what I did to improve over this time).  Amazingly, on the 6', there was one putt (approximately coming from 10:00) that I didn't sink at all in 4-5 passes and then was the only coin remaining, and it was face up.  I could've sworn it would break right, and I kept missing it left, and when I finally aimed straight in, I made two in a row.  Maybe it was one of those rare (?) double-breaker 6' putts.
    • This is feeling like the club is at P2. To get lower launch angles I have to feel like I’m dragging my hands through impact just delofting the crap out of the club.  This is trying to stop at P2.5. The consistency in launch angle gets worse. Contact gets worse.   trying to go P3, things get more volatile. The more I increase my swing length the more I can’t lower the dynamic loft.  Edit: these are with my 56 degree.
