Hey all,

Just wanted to say hi. I've been a lurker here for some time but thought I'd finally sign up and join the group.

I've been playing on and off for about 9 years now but haven't really taken my game as serious as I have until the past couple years. I finally went for a professional club fitting last winter, ordered new clubs/shafts made to my specs and with alot of practice and playing, I proceeded to watch my handicap drop nearly 6 strokes since then. I'm currently a 16.0 with over 30 rounds recorded this year. I'm a huge advocate for fittings. I believe a proper fitting is essential for improvign your game. I'm a living example of it.

My best round ever recorded is 80. (on a course with a slope of 116 @ 6100 yrds) I try to play to about 65-6700 yards and typically shoot upper 80's - low 90's. Any longer of a course and I can get myself into trouble.

Far and wide, the highlight of my playing career would have to be last Friday (Oct 12, 2012)  when I carded my first ace!! If it wasn't for my witness I wouldn't have believed it myself! It was a short par 3 that's only 110 on the card. An easy PW where the ball hopped once, hit the stick and dropped right one! I'm still elated! I kept telling myself I was long in the green side bunker until I walked up and looked in the cup. My playing partner kept telling my otherwise!

Anyway, I look forward to interacting with you all! I'm sure I'll learn plenty!

Thanks!

Hey dude,

I'm up in Skokie and used to play a ton but quite for a while and now I'm back.  I'm in the 15-18 handicap area, used to be a 9-10.  Where do you play typically?

Welcome! Congrats on your first ace, still looking for mine. What part of Chicago are you at?

Hey guys,

Thanks for the kudos!

I live in Chicago on the NW side of town. My playing partner and I try to play everywhere/anywhere.We're really not opposed to driving for a good course. We both like collecting logo balls so we're always trying out new courses.

We'll repeat alot of courses if we both like it.

We should try to get together sometime then. If not before winter then definitely in the spring.

In fact, we just played St Andrews this morning.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
