As I was at the range earlier today, I was thinking about videotaping my swing to create a "My Swing" thread, but I thought of something important: I have no clue of the best way to go about this. I have an iPod with a camera that I use for music, as well as a digital camera, and my instructor uses an iPad occasionally to show me something in my swing. However, I'm unsure of whether I should use the iPod or the camera, as well as which angles are best to record from. Would a video from a front angle and directly behind be most useful, or should you offset the camera slightly either direction? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are two most commonly used methods for videoing a swing.

Forward view:  Basically, if you are set up on the golf ball you would have the camera directly opposite of you with with the lens obviously pointing toward you.  You want the camera close enough to make your body as large as possible but far enough away to incorporate all aspects of your swing.

Down the Line.  If you were set up on the ball the camera would be to your right and the lens  would be pointing down the target line (Down range).  Again, you want the camera close enough to make sure your body is as large as possible but far enough away to incorporate all of your swing.

    • Still plugging away with the teacher.  I do have a question after working on some drills last night. This is something I should know already but for some reason, I have gotten myself confused. It deals with weight transfer on the downswing. At what point, should that take place?  Should it be early (prior to reaching A4) ?  I ask because in one of my drills  I get to A4, I feel the weight transfer AS my arms drop, and then go.  Now this may be totally normal, but I "feel" like this gets me in a weird timing position and causes me to try and do too much at once.
    • Tentatively in for at least one of those days. My job situation is a bit up in the air at the moment so need to get that sorted out first then I'll know more for sure or not.
