Hey guys I've finally decided to join the site after "lurking" for for quite some time, it seems like a great site and I've already learned a lot just from reading through forums.

I'm looking forward to this snow melting so I can get back on the course. The handicap isn't official yet, more of what I would consider to be an educated guess. I'll get it updated and post my official one once I can start playing again.

But sorry for the rambling post, my real question is about hitting off of mats. I know mats mask poor shots, especially fat shots, which is something I've struggled with in the past. I have trouble with getting my weight forward and I get the occasional fat and thin shot. I consider myself to be a good ball striker, but I want to perfect it. I know mats are not ideal for this, but a grass range is unavailable for me this time of year. Anybody have a good way to tell where your contact is on a mat? I can feel if I hit well behind the ball first, but I'm sure there are better ways to do it than feel and to get proper results.

Thanks everyone in advance and I'm looking forward to participating on this great site

You can put a line of tape down right behind the ball and focus on not hitting it.... if you have a fat shot you'll hit the tape which will start to tear.

That's a great idea, thanks.

    • Day 125: jam packed day, so only had time for a little putting on my mat. Worked on getting the handle slightly more upright at address primarily.
    • Day 309 - More of the same, grip/backswing/downswing rotation. This time with the Divot Board.
    • Day 50 - 2024-11-19 Hit about 20 balls focusing mostly on the backswing. That's going to be my November and December.
    • They need to do something to speed  up play. They could randomly  time  players. One  idea would  be  if a group gets  out  of  position they are disqualified. If its a group of  3 and  its  1 player playing like  molasses i can imagine an exciting interaction, lol
    • I agree with @dennyjones, a suspension of some meaningful duration would be better than getting bounced from the Tour. They might consider experimenting each week. It might generate a bit of interest. I like the idea of a visible shot clock. If a player and their caddy can’t decide on a strategy and pull the trigger in XX seconds (30? 45? 60?), one stroke penalty. Give each player 2 resets a round. The clock starts when the last player to hit’s ball stops moving. Other pace ideas could be used every couple events until a consensus is reached to adopt or ditch an idea.
