Hi I've been playing for 8 months now and I have improved a lot to the point I am buying some new clubs ( my old ones were Dunlop hand me downs) I have already bought callaway big Bertha woods and love them now I am about to buy Wilson staff d17 irons are they a good club for a high handicapper like myself?

You def need to hit some balls with many different brands and see which one works best. Some irons will work wonders and others will make you wanna quit golf...

They are designed with the high handicapper in mind....slight offset deep cavity head that still cuts thru the rough, and fat uniflex steel or graphite shafts. So I would say that the answer is yes.

In my  bag:

Driver, Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 9.5 stiff

3, 5 woods: Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 15,18 degrees Stiff

2 hybrid: Callaway Diable Edge Tour 18 degrees R (out when the 5 wood is in)

3,6 hybrids: Callaway Diablo Edge 21 S and 30 degrees R

4,5 hybrids: Callaway Razr X HL 24 and 27 degrees Stiff

7-AW irons: Callaway Razr HL graphite R shafts

SW 54 Callaway X Series Jaws CC Slate Fujikura Graphite Stiff

Putter: Odessey White Ice 1 Blade Putter.

Ball...looking for any ball that hates water, sand, long grass, and getting lost in the woods.

I can't find any, so forced to use ones that seem to love all the above.

I would still definitely hit some balls before I buy them.

I've tried them out at the shop was hitting the ball cleanly, felt nice and comfortable just wanted to be sure before I buy thanks for your help :-)

    • I was ready to declare winter over several weeks ago. We woke up to a little surprise this morning. This is going to make golf difficult today. 😡
    • One of the best weeks of the year!  Rooting for Rory as well, but I'm also bracing for the sad letdown. He's had a great season to this point tho, so maybe this is finally it.   Pretty optimal conditions right now. 67F with 10mph wind.
    • And they’re off! Should be an interesting tournament. Pulling for Rory to finally break through.
    • Yep, they are really really good for high handicap golfers that need help getting the ball in the air, and don't have enough spin to stop the ball.  For moderate to lower handicap golfers, I would go towards less game improvement irons for consistency. There are some really good clubs out there that blend both. You can also get a set that has GI in the long irons and less GI in the short irons.
    • The lofts for irons are all over the board now. Hard to compare distance when PW's for instance are from 41* to 46*.
