Hi,

I just got home from Marbella, Spain also known as the Costa del Golf among people familiar with Spain. A great trip indeed, with an average of 0,7 golf rounds per day.
But I`ve found out that I need to get a whole iron set, and being stuck with a sucky Hong Kong 1/2 set is my handicap.
In Golf Magazine, there was a test of 4 sets of iron-woods, and the superior winner was Tour Edge Bazooka QL iron-wood.

I must admit I got interested in these clubs, as I`ve test swinged the new Callaway Fusion iron-woods. But what do you guys think about these clubs?

I have made one hole in one this far. While you are reading this, I am most likely out on the tee trying to sink another one

I have been playing for almost a year now with Thomas Golf's hybrid iron-woods. I was converted when I hit my friend's just to see what it felt like. I carry a Cleveland 56° SW but that's it. For whatever reason I hit the Thomas' straighter than my conventional Cobra irons. Distance control, at least for me, is sacrificed somewhat - but my game has improved considerably since I made the switch. Incidentally, I back-up the ball almost as much with my 55° Thomas saucer-sized wedge as I do with my CG 10. Also, the mega-sized Thomas' make super-long and low "chip 'n run" shots very easy. e.g. the "21" (46°) punch n runs just over 100 yds.) My only criticism is that with fourteen clubs in my bag, all of them with head covers, it's a crowded mess! TM425 R7, Cobra 3w, 4 Nike Hybrids, Thomas hybrids 15,17,19,21,23,25, CG 10 SW, Ping Cra-z putter. dayll

I think the longer irons would be great with iron woods, but I can't see the lower ones being too good, and distance control would be almost impossible with them I think, I wouldn't be able to half swing with them.

I have the Tour Edge Iron Woods 6-Gap Wedge. I love them, the sound when you hit them right is great. Of course I am a 20 handicapper so take it for what it is.

I suppose you're asking about hybrids. You may wish to try the Cobra Baffler DWS. This a great club: offered in many lofts, easy to hit, equipped with an Aldila NV-HL shaft. It would be hard to go wrong with this one. Good luck.

I`ve actually tried a Cobra Baffler. I hit too much of a power fade, when trying to drive it 180-200 mts. Nothing for me, I guess.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
