Given it's almost Fathers Day, I thought this might be a relevant post.

Time to golf has been in short supply so far due to work, weather, and family activities.  I finished work at 6 last night and didn't have to run my kids anywhere and the weather was beautiful (finally).  So I decided to head to a local muni par 3 9-hole which is a great course to practice irons.  It's very hilly and challenging for a par 3.

Anyway, my 9 year daughter old asked if she could go...which was a first.  She just wanted to walk the course with me.  We get to the first tee and have to tee-off immediately.  Old dad is a little stiff from sitting in front of a computer for the last 10 hours so I proceed to chunk the first shot.  Good line but no distance.  My daughter cheerfully comments that it looks good and let's "go get it."  I had to smile and was going to correct her that the shot was actually pretty bad....but why bother.  She made me smile.

From the second hole on, I actually hit the ball pretty well.  I'm able to play 2-3 balls per hole.  By the third hole, she's cleaning mud off the balls, By the fourth hole, she tells me that she's going to pull clubs.  She tries to pull the cart but the course is too hilly so I take care of that.  By the 7th hole, I tell her she can start putting to finish the hole.

We both had a great time and maybe she'll develop a real interest in the game.   And for those days when I have to remember why I play this game, yesterday's outing will be one of the first memories that come to mind.

Happy Fathers Day to all the SandTrap fathers.

    • I  had to return to boast  just a  bit. Everyone  knows  i thought  this  is  how the Championship should  be decided. Match play is far  better than stroke  play to determine a  champion and  its  much closer to most sports  playoffs. Lose and you are  out.     Promotion, relegation and match play: PGA Tour unveils radical new structure The PGA Tour has revealed its planned changes to its competitive model, schedule and playoffs, changes that will be more substantial than any in the Tour's half-century-long history. How will the PGA Tour series wrap up its season? The current PGA Tour playoff format consists of three stroke-play events, concluding with the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Starting in 2028, the Tour's playoff system will feature match play, and will rotate through various courses. Further details will be revealed at this year's Tour Championship next month.
    • Posted a couple swings here. I think my attempt to blend the movement still results in a more “around” back swing?
    • I never heard dislike for them.  From my perspective, they are just like any other club. Though, they were always probably over-priced, until recently as other club manufacturers have been raising prices the past 5+ years. You had to wait for them to go on sale, which you can get them closer to other club manufacturers.  They sell good clubs. Nothing crazy..
    • Why do so many people dislike PXG clubs and constantly criticize them? All the folks at my club and especially online, I never hear good things about them except from people who bought them and defend them. They look fine to me but curious is there some sort of quality issue or is it just stereotyping the buyers.
    • I have the LM1 launch monitor and I’ve been very impressed. I agree with your assessment and it’s very accurate for me and ease of use is wonderful. The price point of $199 is very hard to beat with this form factor and performance. I was previously using a PRGR.
