Just wanted thoughts on this subject.

Natural Golfer

Someone who just takes to golf without any sane reason and is much better at it than anything else they have attempted. General view is they were just born to play it, like some mystical purpose that they were destined for.

Natural Talent

This person is an athlete displays aptitude in a number of sports and has options probably could have reached a high level in maybe 2-3 different sports. Has physical ability and the mental drive to succeed often explained as having something special about them that mere mortals like us don't have and can only dream of.

Natural Learner

Now this is the interesting one for me as I believe we all have this. It depends on what you want to think about yourself the limits you put on yourself and your perception of your own ability to in this case be a good golfer. I think learning is natural. My brain and body are more than capable of learning an exterior skill whatever it is. Granted golf can be a lifetime of work but it is not a monster beyond our intellect that tortures us on a weekly basis. Depends on how you think of it.

Do you think golf is one of these things or a combination of all?

Probably a combination of the three in unique parts for each person. I'd say I'm some mixture of Natural Talent and Natural Learner. Always been a successful athlete in multiple sports and I still work out regularly. And I always did well in school and when taught something, I'm capable of quickly making the changes.

I used to work with a kid who was a Natural Golfer. He was an athlete as well, but about only a year after picking up the game, he was playing some really good golf.

    • Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.
    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
