Hi! New member here, thought I'd share some videos I had my friend shoot today. Disregard the failed photobomb attempt and the weird clubhead obstruction going on!

I have some thoughts of my own of these two after seeing them, but I thought I'd save them to avoid bias. I'd really appreciate any type of feedback!

First drive was straight but low, around 220-240 yards carry (into a lateral due to poor aim). Second drive produced a high fade that stopped pretty quickly, but still 275 yards down the line (GPS measured). I usually don't have a problem with distance. I work on getting more consistent off the tee, possibly with a more controlled ball flight I typically mix slight draws with slight fades unintentionally, with the occasional push-slice in there.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Swing looks pretty good but you'll need to improve your camera angles to get any meaningful feedback on this forum.

I suggest you read these links to get you started:

http://thesandtrap.com/t/38240/my-swing-video-threads-rules-please-read

Pay particular attention to the filming instructions in this article:

To start a "my swing" thread go to the "member's swings" subforum in the Practice Range forum and click 'start new thread', then just follow the instructions.

Have fun!

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Thanks. Didn't realize there were rules on the title of the thread. Moderators: Feel free to remove/rename this thread. Maybe I'll come back later.

Hey guys, seems like my first videos got messed up. Can't fix them! Took the camera with me today and recorded some better ones!

  1. From straight behind. This one was one of my better drives this session. Really good distance. It felt like down the line, but it looks like it's hit to the left on the vid. Not sure if my aim is off or if the angles are playing tricks on me. Got slow motion.
  2. Another swing, a little diagonal. Another good hit.
  3. From the front, unfortunately zoomed in. Didn't realize that until I got home. Slow motion too, should show the swing pretty well.
  4. 3-wood. Wanted to include this because the 3-wood felt really good today. Every shot was relaxed, and I really like the tempo. Certainly one of my go-to clubs right now.

Before these drives were recorded I struggled a bit. What helped was to really relax. When I'm at the top, the initial thought when starting the backswing is to really let the club do the work, almost to the point where I let it fall down. I think this is visible as a slight dip at the top. I also had "stay low and compact" in my head trough the swing and it seemed to help me.

I have really good distance nowadays, but I'm working on shaping my ball a little. I hit pretty straight but sometimes it's a slight fade, sometimes a slight draw. With the shot cone in mind, I'd like to work in a draw eventually. The other thing I struggle with is "getting in the zone" where everything clicks. When I'm in it, the driver is my best friend. I guess overall consistency is a good goal for me! From the videos it looks like I have good torque but also a little sway. Let me know what you think, I really appreciate it!

It looks like you have a classic OTT move. There are many resources on fixing this, most importantly feel that right elbow lower straight down, not hang as you forearm slaps at the ball.

Apart from the over-the-top swing, I'm very interested in opinions on my hip movement and weight shift. On the videos, it looks like there is violent action and it almost looks like I'm jumping!

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
