I hit the gym to keep in shape. I was, and still am, not the biggest hitter. I don't nor didn't ever try to swing for the fences. I think that's been in a big part of keeping my back in good shape.

This may be veering off-topic, but would you be willing to share some of your gym routine with us? I've been hitting the gym, and I'd like to compare to what you do, if that's possible. If you don't want to reveal any secrets, but are willing to look over my routine and say "stop this" or "add that", I'd also like that.

The girlfriend part shindig mentions makes a lot of sense too. A girlfriend, while there are always exception to the rule, will more than likely want more and more of the time you need for yourself and your practice. I figure there will be plenty of girls wanting my attention after I make it big. Now it is time to focus on golf.

Yes, my rule (it isn't even my rule) is meant as a broad generalization. There are certainly girls who will be supportive. Maybe they have been dreaming of being attached to a PGA Tour pro, and they think you're their ticket (either you're said pro, or you'll eventually introduce them).

Of course the US PGA is the ultimate goal, but, I'd be prefectly happy spending my days on the JPGA. I lived there in the past and absolutely love everytying about the place. The money isn't as big, but still plenty big enough to make a decent living. Plus, being a foreigner, who speaks the language, I'm sure I'd get some serious endorsement deals.

Yeah, my friends who have been to Japan tell me it's a great place. I certainly understand this now. And I seem to recall that plenty of American players have made their way to the PGA Tour by way of JPGA.
That's pretty cool that you can speak Japanese. I am doing an engineering co-op for a Japanese company, DENSO, this year. The language is fascinating. I'd love to take the classes they offer, but they are only for full time employees.

If you're a co-op, unless that term means something different from what it meant when I was an undergrad, you might be able to take the class when school starts up again.

My workout is really nothing special. I was wokring with a trainer that knew I golfed but I don't think he had me on a golf specific routine. I started working out cause I was a lump of negative muscle mass and I didn't like that. I'm doing this more to feel better about myself. One of my close golf buddies is a personal trainer, he's totally muscle bound, but I knock the ball farther than him. There's this lanky 15 yera old kid at my course who kills the ball for his size.

Back on topic though, even though I don't work with a trainer anymore, I tried to remember the moves had me use. I also use this site... www.shapefit.com . They list a grip of excersizes for every different body part. There's also www.mytpi.com from Titleist, and www.coreperformance.com from Adidas.

My routine startes with 25 minutes on a treadmill. I start with 5 minutes at a small uphill grade at a medium pace. Then up the grade 1 point each minute until 12 and a half minutes. Then I'll put the grade back to my starting position and up the pace to just under where I'll have to jog. I do that until the 19th minute, and again I'll start upping the grade each minute, but turn the pace down a hair. I was using an elyptical machine before that, but read something on mytpi.com that made a ton of sense. With an elyptical your feet are set on a pedal and you don't get feedback to your ankles and feet like would would when walking. Wouldn'yt you know it, the first day I went to the treadmill, my ankles and shins were rocked. Here's the article You may need to sign up for mytpi to read it, but, it's free to join . (I think).

As far as weights go, I've fiddled around with weight and reps. I've found I've made the biggest gains with 3 sets of 15 reps with medium weight. Sometimes I'll throw a heavy set in as the second set and try to get to 15 reps. First I start with shoulders. Then I do back, then bicep, abs/core, legs, tricep then forearm and chest. I'll do that series one more time, changing the move I do for each part.
