I am currently working on rebuilding my set for the 2014 season. In doing so, I am in need of a putter but I am running into dead-ends online. I am hoping some of you putter aficionados will be able to steer me in the right direction.

What I am looking for is a plumber-neck, "half" mallet with 3-alignment aids - similar to the TaylorMade White Smoke Indy. The only thing is that I, for some neurotic reason, am absolutely opposed to white putters and I would only consider a silver/metal finish or black. Size doesn't matter because I can cut it down, but I am wanting a 33". I have no manufacturer preference or bias.

Can any of you basically recommend a putter that is similar to the TM WhiteSmoke Indy, but black? I looked around for the better part of 3 hours now with absolutely no luck.

Why don't you drive up to Erie and get fit for an Edel?  You will not need to buy one ever again probably.

You could get the Taylor Made and a can of spray paint...   Or, the Indy doesn't look much different from my Scotty Cameron Newport 2.  Not sure I would call it a half mallet unless the pictures I found for the indy are wrong.  For a few bucks more Cameron will add extra alignment lines in the custom shop.  Lots of nice putters out there.

Yeah, I'm not sure my "half-mallet" reference is technically correct. I guess I call it that because it's not necessarily a traditional mallet putter, visually, in my opinion. You probably did have the correct pictures, but to narrow it down, it is the TaylorMade White Smoke IN-12 model.

Technically, the TM WS IN-12 putter is classified as a mallet. The SC Newport 2 is a blade if I'm not mistaken.

    • They sure do. 158 with an 8 iron is on the high end for me
    • Went back to controlling my knees. That part was getting a bit sloppy when I worked on my backswing. Right hip didn't slide or gain internal rotation. I would just rotate back and around and the left knee would be in a bad spot. Really focusing now on keeping my left knee very stable and straighter in the backswing. I can't go back to the old pattern of overturning the hips. I was returning to my old pattern to time my downswing. Turn forever.  Left knee controls both knees and hips, acting as an anchor. Feel like it straightens a bit.   Hinge sooner and faster. Not in a way that sends the hands out and flips the club over. I still noticed when the hands get to A2.5, the hands would want to flip over and flatten the club out a ton.  Still trying to figure out how to roll the forearms a bit open and not just roll the club inside a ton.  Figure out the timing to get the hands down. Still getting a bit of right elbow collapsing in the downswing because the arms are too high when I turn. Everything is happening sooner now. If the hips are controlled, the backswing is shortened. Because it is shortened I don't know when to get the hands down and I just turn because the downswing is a go.  Very slow (50%) swings are decent.
    • Distances look fine, no?
    • Day 207-12 Wider backswing and arm reconnecting in downswing. Did a much better job with proper wrist movements through downswing today.
    • Trackman place today. I broke my tripod so could only film by hand the video the venue’s cameras generated. This is an 8 iron. Amazing how odd this feels relative to how it looks. Not similar!
