Been away from the game for about 8 years. I've been playing/practicing this summer and am looking for some input.

I've got Callaway Big Bertha irons from 96 with RCH 96 shafts in them. I was down to a 15 when I stopped playing. Currently, I'm slightly higher.

Is current technology substantially better now in the iron world?

Thanks

Irons havent't changed much in the last 10 years, drivers yes, hybrids of course, but irons have remained strinkgly similar.

I dont know if I agree with the statement that they havent changed. I took my old Ping Zing 2's (funky looking ones) and hit them back to with several new brands/clubs and I found that with the higher priced irons, ie x20's and the ping rapture and such that the ball came off alot hoter on the new clubs. I felt like I was swinging a brick at the end of a stick when I went back to my old ones. Get the X-20's, I love mine.

They have definatly changed, go out and get yourself a set as a present to starting the game :P

any advice on X18 versus X20? Are the X20's worth the extra for a high handicap player?

That much I cant tell you. I took about 7 years off before coming back to the game this year. I recommend going to your local golf shop and spending several hours hitting differant clubs. I spent like three hours at my local Edwin Watts. I think they thought I was using it as a practice range until I came back the next day and droped a load on new irons, bag, driver, hrbrids and putter. But I bought the balls at Walmart!
