Hi guys,

I'm looking for a recommendation for a replacement shaft for my Cleveland HiBore XLS 3 wood. It was originally fitted with a Fujikura Red Tour Trajectory Stiff Flex Shaft but due to a mishap on the weekend I'm looking for a replacement. I know I could just buy a new 3 wood but I've grown to love this club and have a matching driver and 5 wood. I have a good balance of control and distance with the club and I know most of this is probably down to the shaft but along with this the club at address has always given me confidence.

Anyway, back to the point of this thread. I'm looking for an equivalent replacement. The Fujikura spec is as follows: Weight 65g, Torque 3.1, Kickpoint Mid/High, Flex Stiff.

Shaft also has to be available to buy after market in the UK.

Many thanks in anticipation of your help.

Matt.

The Fujikura Motore F1 65 is pretty close in terms of specs, but I'm not sure how it would compare regarding feel.

Bridgestone j40 445 w/ Graphite Design AD DJ-7
Callaway Steelhead Plus 3 wood w/ RCH Pro Series 3.2
Adams Idea Pro hybrids (3 & 4) w/ Aldila VS Proto
Bridgestone j33 CB (5-PW) w/ original Rifle 5.5
Bridgestone West Coast 52*, j40 satin 56* & 60* w/ DG S-300
Odyssey White Hot XG #9
Bridgestone B330-RX

Cleveland HiBore XLS is rather old now - consequently quite a few turn up on Ebay on a regular basis - complete with Fujikura Red stiff shafts attached. It's certainly a lot cheaper than buying an aftermarket equivalent and getting it fitted. Prices are around £40 and the match is exact rather than a near equivalent. The F1 65 is NOT a close match IMO and frankly there are around a coupled of hundred other shafts that meet the 65g mid/high criteria which would be a closer match, but it would be easier to buy the real thing rather than speculate on what would or wouldn't be an equivalent to the club you want.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I hadn't really thought of just buying a club from ebay for use of the shaft. It's an old club but one I like, I still hit it further than any new clubs I've tried at demo days. Plus I like the looks (not everyone's cup of tea I know!). Thanks for the help! Matt

    • Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.
    • Day 117 12-7 A bit of chipping practice today. Full swing- hit some real balls to see where Im at.
    • Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.
    • I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
    • Day 433 - 2025-12-07 Got some work in after Junior Elite before a night of sports (and the return of my wife!). Backswing work. Similar to what a lot of my juniors are doing.
