Hey

So I’ve recently found out (the hard way) that I’ve got a herniated disc.

Not only would my back lock up in painful spasms with pain shooting down my left leg, it also screwed with my timing and made me unable to hit the ball.

My back has been sore for quite a while and I didn’t pay it any heed, in retrospect really stupid but what can you do!?! I was doing so well on the course, I played a lot of nine hole rounds due to the fact that I couldn’t manage 18. Shoot a couple of 37’s a couple of 39’s.

So now my physician says that I can’t play golf now, maybe do some putting and chipping if it’s not to painful.

Any of you guys have experience of herniated discs and such?

How long is the healing time? Did you have surgery or how did you recover from it?

I love this game, most days!

I had the same. Some days could not walk. Went to doc and started with physio, some few drugs and finally surgeon said 'consider laminectomy' before some accident (falling off ladder, auto crash) severs your spinal cord. Took the surgery, walking ok next day. Within 2 months back to even better than before.

Thanks! I'll look in to it.

    • Flying into ATL on Sept 11 (Thu), early, leaving Sept 15 (Mon), late. Dates are fixed. Trying to hit the best RTJ Trail stops without spending half the trip in the car.   Plan: Thu: Grand National (Lake or Links) Fri: GN AM, then drive to Capitol Hill, play Senator Sat: Capitol Hill – Judge Sun: Ross Bridge Mon: Oxmoor Ridge early, drive to ATL   Thinking about squeezing in Cambrian Ridge after Capitol Hill—worth it or too much? Would love any feedback or tips from those who’ve done it.
    • Day 73 (13 Jul 25) (note: forgot to post the "day" for the past few days, up to day 73) - Easy day in the backyard, with time on the 50deg wedge and the mat (simulating tight lies around the green) working on low spinners.  Love using this mat as it is small and portable but also lends to being a type of alignment rod to get a proper setup.  Finished up with a few swings with the 54.
    • Congrats on the new leg of your journey - the challenge of learning something new while dealing with Parkinson’s is totally awesome.
    • Played several holes today with my Buddy's left haded clubs.  I was going to order just woods, but after playing again today and hitting the irons well, I will be ordering a complet set of Left handed Clubs.    They are Callaway Edge, Regular flex.  I am excited !  Will let you know after I try them and let you know how well they performed.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • Depends in part on what lie the greens crew left me. If it's first cut of rough or fairway and clear shot to cup, it's an 8i chip and run. If it's shaggy, or I have to go over ridge or bunker, it's a cut shot with a 58* LW.
