The last day of the comp is 2 ball.  Player vs player.  Watching recap of Medinah on TV, from UK sports angle, noted that Capt asked team players about each preference for play: early, mid or late in the day. The question that arose, in my mind, was did Capt Ollie know the opponents prior to choosing his player?  Did Molinari choose to play vs Tiger?  Was Tiger's, or anyone else's spot, known before Ollie made his choice?

How and when are the final day's pairings made?   Perhaps the visitors, or cup defenders, must reveal first the choice, then the other side can set team. Other scenerios possible.

It's not quite like team sports where subs are possible, even at last second.

I believe the way it works is that each captain takes turns nominating a player and the opposing captain names someone in response to complete the pairing. For example, USA nominates Hunter Mahan. Europe responds with Rory McIlroy Europe nominates Ian Poulter. USA responds with Phil Mickelson And so on.. down through all 12 In this way, a captain can save his firepower for late and ignore the matchups. Or he can do the opposite and try to strategically match his guys against opponents where he thinks the matchup is favorable.

I think both captains turn lists in with the order of play 1 thru 12 and then they pair them up.

So basically no-one knows who they are pairing players up against.

I think that's the Presidents Cup.

I think what @Wansteadimp said is how it works for the Ryder Cup.

    • It's going to be very difficult for the 2026 Masters to match the 2025 edition for storyline. I honestly don't know that anyone else in the field could match the story of Rory finally winning after so many years and the blow ups over the years, not to mention the career slam being completed. No one this year that I can think of is remotely close to that kind of story. Combine that with the attempts at blow ups last year (Double on the 1st, 13, 18 on first try) and the stunningly good shots that he hit in the final round (7, 15, 17, 18 on second try).  Full gamut: https://www.masters.com/en_US/watch/2025-04-13/17445961638226475/every_single_shot_from_rory_mcilroys_final_round.html
    • Let's kick off the 2026 Masters talk with… a look back at 2025 (coming soon):
    • Wow, so Europe named Luke for a third term. Luke Donald named 2027 European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald named 2027 European Ryder Cup Captain Who will the U.S. name? I hope not Tiger Woods.
    • I am playing Arrowhead for the first time and I am pumped.  What are some things that I need to make sure and appreciate, for those that have played it before and love it? It has been a pretty dry winter so I am expecting rough to be forgiving which is nice and it will be playing much easier than it does in the late summer (I am assuming based on other colorado courses).  What should I make sure to not miss?
