My friend who I play regularly has never had a lesson, he'd just kinda taught himself and has a tasty short game but no long game whatsoever! At the start if this year he really hit a wall and got worse and worse! He wasn't enjoying his leisure time and would often leave feeling pissed! He went for a free lesson, was so impressed with the instant results, and booked another 3. I'm now playing a different man! His drives often match mine, he can now hit 4 & 5 irons sweet, and he's gained at least a club length on every iron! And all for £75! The point I'm trying to make is he is enjoying golf more than ever now, & I'm enjoying playing him more as it's become more competitive! It's the best £75 he's ever spent and I'm now thinking of getting me some lessons!

That's awesome! Glad it worked out.

I have had the opposite effect with 3 different instructors.

My best coaches so far have been a video camera and Dr. Scholl's foot spray.

Glad it worked out. IMO lessons can be the best money you spend on golf or some of the worst. The key is finding an instructor that knows what they are talking about and has the ability to get that info to you in a way you can understand. That's a lot harder to do than it might sound, there are a lot of crap instructors out there.

I started lessons this year. When the instructor showed me what he first wanted me to change, looking at the video I was thinking, "omg, I'm doing that! Ugly, ugly, ugly". Being self taught, what I thought I was doing in my minds eye vs. what I was actually doing as evidenced by the video where two vastly different things. I wish I had started with a series of lessons. By being self taught I was just reinforcing my mistakes every time I took a swing. After I finish my current series of lessons I'm planning on using evolvr on an ongoing basis. I'm a believer. I aspire to be a "stupid monkey".

Plus, Mike's in San Diego. That may even be a better use of your lesson time.

Good point, that may be in my future. Evolvr looks to be a real bargain though and fits nicely in my budget.
