The 2014 Sanderson Farms Championship is being played at the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Miss. The par-72, which will use the Azalea and Dogwood nines at the facility, will measure 7,354 yards for the event.

The field this week includes 2014-2015 season winners Ben Martin and Robert Streb, along with John Daly, David Duval and Lee Janzen. Most of the world's top golfers will be playing this week in the WGC-HSBC Champions event in China.

Last year, Woody Austin won in a three-man playoff against Daniel Summerhays and Cameron Beckman. At the age of 49, Austin was the oldest winner on the PGA Tour since 2007, and he'll be back in the field this year to defend his title.

I remember that playoff like it was 5 minutes ago. When I started golfing a couple years back I played Cameron Beckman's putter. It was literally his putter from when he played junior golf, my father in law picked it up at a garage sale Cameron's father had. I've always felt the need to follow his progress as he tries to get his tour card back.

Last year he came soooooo close. He had a short putt to tie Woody and go to a 2nd playoff hole....he pulled it :~(

I'm hoping he has another good tournament. He can only play a handful of PGA tournaments, needs a win desperately.

Anywho, 17 year old high school senior Camden Backel qualified for the tournament

The 17 year old is currently +2 after 10 holes. Currently at 80% GIR's. Not too shabby.

John Daly's first 9 holes today was....very John Daly. Eagle and a double bogey. He now has 2 birdies on the next 9 though, currently 4 under on the day.

The last Canadian-born golfer to win on the PGA tour was Mike Weir....7 years ago.

Finally Nick Taylor broke that drought.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
