We'll be receiving a set for review very soon (I expect them around Tuesday). Of course, then George Promenschenkel (our Trap Five/ProFiles columnist) has to come to Erie to play some golf and pick them up!

I don't think they're out just yet. Soon.

Anyone tried Taylor's new Burner XD irons? Do you know if Taylor is planning another iron set in the Burner line (e.g., Burner TP)?

I posted this in another topic...but didn't want to re-type...but it applies here...so sorry for the RP!!

I just started this year, but have had the chance to play 4-5 times a week- so I too am a mid-teens handicap.

I started out with a set of custom-made clubs from Fiddler's Green our local pro shop- but felt that I had reached a plateau in that they could deliver...

I demo'd no less than 10 of the most popular clubs (Hot List, mags etc.) including the newest releases clubs from PING, Callaway, and Nike and just ordered a new set of the Taylormade Burner XDs.

For me the differences in the feel, distance and accuracy were glaring. I was hitting between 8-10 yeards longer on every club, and the loft of each shot was amazing...nothing I had been able to ever achieve. What is even more amazing to me, is that the clubs are de-lofted...most being 2-5 degrees shallower loft than the average set- and yet I was hitting high, pure, clean shots that dropped softly onto the target.

Now- I am just waiting for my set to arrive...it is going to be a long two weeks.

Give them a try if you can find a place to demo them. For those of us in the low-to mid teens, these seem like a real chance to break us into a single digit handicap.

hitting irons longer isn't necessarily the point. they are for accuracy. so what if you hit your 7-iron as far as my 6-iron, as long as where we get to where we need to be accurately, that's what counts.

also.your point about the lower lofts still being able to hit high clean shots that dropped. that's like taking your regular 7 iron. and then hitting your 6 iron that still drops like your 7 iron. you should still be able to hit a high clean shot that drops softly. i think it has much more to do with the swing and head rather than just lofts.

Maybe you didn't read what I wrote completely... I said, long AND straight and accurate... If you can get 10 extra yards out of a club, with high launch for a soft drop, without having to go down a club (lower lofted, longer shaft) I have found it to be an advantage. I hit all of the clubs I tested side-by-side...and time after time, was able to hit the target with more loft and accuracy with the Burners...

Obviously hitting the ball long but not on target is counterproductive...but the extra loft allows you to drop the ball softer, with more spin...more control. Or maybe you just have the proverbial complex with the length of your club?

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
