I know there are apps like swing by swing, gamegolf, and others that track distances for each club and give you an average or a range. Are there any apps that do this that don't require you to be on a course? The course I usually play has a sort of driving range and approach practice area. There are flags placed on "greens" and then you can go to wherever you want and hit balls at them. There usually is no one there during the week or maybe one person practicing. This area would be perfect for me to find the range of my clubs but I don't know of an app that does this. It is right next to the 8th hole (of a 9 hole course) so I could log into swing by swing or game golf and just hit balls all over but it would result in me scoring like a 50 on that hole. Not really what I want to skew my stats.

Is there such an app that would work for this? If not a golf specific app maybe a odometer type app that gives you distance in yards and I could manually record my stats. I have downloaded a few odometer apps but they all are either in kilometers or miles which doesn't seem accurate enough to get good distances.

Get a shag bag and find a couple of empty baseball fields. Hit 20-30 balls with each club and just pace it off to the center of your landing area. Hit some both ways if wind is a factor. Google maps measuring tool is also good for establishing some landmarks for benchmark yardages in case your pacing is off a bit. Start with the odd or even numbered clubs first and you should get a good guess on the clubs that fit in between because you likely won't have time to hit 20-30 balls with every club in one session.

Pull up your range on Google Earth and use the distance measuring tool to measure between where you were and where you hit it. Helps to pace off from your range spot to a fixed object that will appear on the aerial photo.

    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
