Its taken a while to make my first Swing video, but I'm glad I did! Did a bit of googling yesterday and found out our camera (Nikon P510) could handle slow mo video relatively well, and I've made a "sort of" driving range at home (for SOFT balls!) so I thought I'd give it a try.

I immediately noticed a few things -

1: in general my swing was a lot better than I expected ie: backswing and downswing tend to follow a very similar path. I've been suffering from Over the Top swing issues, but concentrating on keeping my weight off my toes so I don't topple forwards seems to have helped dramatically!

2: my swing does appear to me to be very "shallow" (if that is the right term - ie: it looks to be around behind me more than up above me). Don't know if that is good or bad but it does appear to be my swing plane at the moment.

3: I sometimes don't get my hips forward enough at the start of the downswing, which may account for me hitting the ground before the ball on occasion. However when I move correctly I do appear to hit ball then ground - which is good!

4: in earlier attempts I noticed I was swinging too far and letting my left arm collapse (bend) too much at the top of the back swing. I would not have noticed this without videoing my swing, and tried to concentrate on not letting that happen later on. It looks much better in the swings I have posted...

So generally I am a LOT happier with my swing than I thought I would be! I've been really struggling for a few weeks but I think that was down to trying too many tweaks, especially with grip. I had read about Rory keeping his left thumb tight to his fingers in the grip and had been trying this out, but I think it meant I didn't have a firm enough hold of the club and was therefore losing control badly when I hit the ball. I've gone back to my original grip in these videos and after 6 holes this morning at the local  course, and things seem a lot better.

Any constructive comments appreciated!

    • Yeah.  As far as remaining still, I was thinking body rotates around the spine like an axis.  Instead of pivoting, some like me, sway, come off that axis, leave weight on back foot, etc.
    • I apologize on behalf of… idiot men. Sorry about that. Next time, tell the guy to shut up. 😛  Day 553, May 8, 2024 18 holes from the whites with @rwolfe. Windy AF today, but hit some good shots. Slid back a little from where I was the previous two days, but… I can get it back. Made a pretty nifty birdie on 12 from some pretty odd places. 😄
    • The angles look fine. Get as much light as you can on the area — you want the highest shutter speed you can get. Less blur.
    • Snap @ Tour Spoon! Birdied 11 yesterday. Hit a poor iron ,stopped on edge of bunker , pitch with my lob wedge landed about 6’ away and went in. Only 12 & 14 to go, long par5’s into the prevailing wind. Might be waiting a while although I did have about 15’ on 12 after the birdie on 11, didn’t miss by much.
    • Tested the Maxfli TourS yesterday. Compared to my former ball, the Titleist AVX, I got an extra 10 yards off the driver and half a club (5-7 yards) off the irons. The combined extra yardage from the driver and fairway wood meant that on par-5s where I usually hit an 8-iron third shot, I hit a PW. It's just a smidgen softer than the AVX and seems to spin well. Some of the reviews indicated a low ball flight, but I did not notice it. I also did not observe any problems with the paint quality, which was an issue with previous Maxfli models up to and including the U series.  My previous round I tested the Bridgestone E6, a two-piece ball with a different cover. It was OK; the same distance and feel as the AVX but with less spin.
