Lead Tape on Putter?

I cut my Scotty Cameron Newport 2.5 down an inch and am adding lead tape to make up for the difference in swing weight. Would it be possible to put it on the flat of the putter (that is, the piece behind and perpendicular to the face) or must it be on the back of the face?

I'd rather not cover up the nice little dots--but if I must, then I shall.

Personally, I have found that putting lead tape (the role of lead tape, not those bulky strips sold in packs of eight) on the bottom of the putter helped me. I put two long strips on mine that completely covered the bottom so it did not sit awkward on the ground and it did not look different from the top while I was putting.

I have the same problem with my newport. I bought it knowing that it needed to be extended and have weight added. and i can't decide weather to add ugly lead tape or putting powder in the shaft

We had some of those strips around the house so I added them in pieces... It feels better, but not wild about the way it looks, which is half the battle.

if you put the lead down the shart what do you put over it to hold it in?
